What does a wedding ring look like?

Which hand is it worn on?

This is probably silly, but I really don't know. Lots of women wear rings, so I am usually cluless about marital status.

It's worn on the left ring finger (4th finger)

and Often is just a gold band.

Engaged ladies often have a nice juicy rock on theirs, married ladies, that and a wedding band. Guys just have a band. :)

No a dumb question at all!

Hale_boop explained it well. I'll just add the fourth finger is the one next to the pinky.

I thought it was the third finger. I might be confusing someone who has posted to this topic with this reasoning. Hale_bopp, I know you are from New Zealand, do they wear their wedding rings on their fourth finger there?

(I should add that in America, we call our ring finger our third, and our fourth finger is considered our pinky. That is slang for our little finger. I'm not sure if everyone in New Zealand calls it that, but I'm still wondering which finger is the ring finger of a person in New Zealand.)

As far as I know, the ring finger is adjacent to the pinky according to American criteria.

pinky - ring - middle - index - thumb

e.g. look at the descriptions and illustrations at this random website

Some girls who who work in restaurants wear a ring where the wedding band goes in order to hide the fact that they're single so that they can avoid being hit on by male customers.

I always feel as though a little jewel-encrusted set of handcuffs would be more appropriate at weddings.....

Ok, left hand, and usually a plain band?

This if frustrating, because it seems most women wear rings on their ring finger ANYWAYS.

What is a good way to tell if somebody is married? Joking aside- (ie, no answers consisting of "if their ass is big" or "if they are crying")

There isn't really a way to tell if a person is married. Your best bet is to tell if the person is not married. (Although, there are some married people who don't wear their rings... :?)

Wedding rings are always on the ring finger. (next to the pinky) Even in America. Whoever told you that is wrong.

If they wear a ring on their wedding finger, stay away, whether they're married or not ;). They obviously don't want to be chatted up. Even if it's a flash ring, they're either engaged or don't want to be chatted up.

As for people that don't wear their rings.. I guess it's just a guess and check thing.

A girl at my work wasn't wearing her wedding band and got hit on.. she just told the guy she was married, no harm done. (Our hands get very messy at work)

Okay, maybe I'm off in left field here but....

...why would it matter? By the time you know someone well enough to ask them on a date, wouldn't you know enough about them to tell if they were available?

Maybe my age is showing here....I've not been in the "market" for 20+ years.

Hale_bopp:

That is exactly what I was trying to say (meaning your point.) I'm sorry if anyone else confused me.
