Ok..... I have been accused of being mean  - well.... I AM Mean! duh! , but there was a whole thread a while ago showing "Nice Guys" profiles on okcupid, and they were totally shamed: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt219858.html ; this thread went 12 pages before it got locked because a fight between users, not because the thread was mean spirited.

The link in the thread even shows the real picture of these guys- not anonymously shaming at all ; here's the new links since in that thread went down: http://okcupidsniceguys.tumblr.com/

here's another: https://sites.google.com/site/niceguysofokc/

So I was wondering; Is anonymously shaming profiles unacceptable?

And why you people always get upset when someone criticizes some people of your own gender? :P That applies to both of you men and women and been always the case on WP: some X criticizes a common trait in gender A or a fraction of people in gender A - users of A gender get upset at X.

I didn't see anything wrong with it. You didn't link to their profiles and even if you did, are they not publicly available anyway?

If it was anonymous (unless there was something that was quite striking and pointed to a specific person), I don't see the real harm in relating anonymous profiles, though I don't believe it's really a "cool" thing to do.

I don't know about unacceptable but I do think it's rather mean and pathetic.

This is the internet, where people insult each other for no reason. That's because the victim can't respond by slapping you in the face, unlike real life.

I never looked at a dating site before. Man, that is horrible stuff. Reminded me of High School yearbook pictures and the dum quotes and sayings people had with them.

But I have no problem with satire or parody of people and things on sites devoted to such. It can be very funny. It used to be just celebrities or politicians who exposed themselves to it. Now lots of people put their stuff out there. Be careful what you post.

Yes. It's also unacceptable to discuss a locked topic.

Topic locked.
