I was at a bar once and these 2 german students groped this guy from behind and they spoke in English saying "we think your the hottest guy in the bar". The guys friend then said "I think there taking the piss"

What do you think those girls really meant?

It depends. Was he good looking? If so, they may have been drunk enough to do something like that to flirt with him or they could have done it as a douchebag type joke if they thought he was shy and wanted him to be flustered.

I've only slapped a strange guy on the butt once and I was drunk and it was the guy who was partnered with the arresting officer. He took it as a compliment and didn't charge me with anything extra although the one who arrested me was busting his balls in the car all the way to the jail telling him what a "nice ass" he had.

I had a strange guy do that to me once and I turned around and told him to touch me one more GD time and he'd come back with no hand.

They were either trying to flirt/joke with him or they were being as*holes. No way to tell without being there and seeing the whole thing.

In British English, "pissed" means drunk.

But "taking the piss" means being a jerk.

Unless they're being sarcastic and are doing it to make fun of him and his looks, which is quite possible in this case, judging by the reply of his male friend.

In the form of ridicule/mockery.

Anyway, being drunk is optional. :)
