That when someone pictures a single person who lives in their moms basement and uses a computer and internet and plays video games....first thing they see is an overweight male who could use a shave? I mean I am 25, female and can hardly be over-weight with my whole 95-100 pounds of weight with 4'11 height. And yet my bedroom is in the basement, I am single and I spend a lot of time on my computer and a fair amount on games as well....and am female. Now maybe I could use a shave since I've left my arm pits and legs alone all winter...in some peoples opinion, but that is just their preconceived notion of what females are supposed to do I only think I should do so if I want to.

Maybe it would be better if people saw this as a living situation some people have than making assumptions about you because of said living situation. It just annoys me all this stuff about people who live in their moms basements and all the crap that would supposedly apply...well I am an underweight female who lives in my moms basement and uses the internet and plays video games..............any other basement dwellers that do not fit the common stereotype?

This is not meant as any offense...I have nothing against bigger people, just seems people always specifically specify some overweight guy as the only sort of person who could have this sort of living arrangement when really its people of all shapes and genders.

its meant to be a jab at anyone who hasn't adopted to societies idea human. that being someone that "grows up" has their own place, works 9-5 5 days a week. doesn't do childish things like cartoons and videogames, etc. a loser basically in their eyes anyways.

I've been told that spill and I don't live in a basement. its funny in the fact that people who spend hours and hours watching football or a fashion show are considered normal. so is not that you spend hours and hours a day doing something its that they consider games and surfing the net to be childish. but spending every waking minute on facebook is ok. hypocrisy at its best. I think those who spend so much time watching football, reading about football, playing fantasy football are odd. i wouldn't insult them for it though. but so many take pleasure in insulting people like us.

its also thrown in that the guy is like that cause he can't get sex, as if having sex or not is what drives people's hobbies.
as for females, i think why they are considered to be the basement dwelling loser is that they can have sex whenever they want and likely time it originated from was when internet and gaming were more male dominated. its stereotypes that people just won't let die.

if video games are for kids for example why are most games rated for over 18 age.

its annoying though.

I'm 45% basement dwelling neckbeard, except I'm a skinny dude who exercises in the dirt & snow as much as possible and most of my computer usage is for work or studying. That said I've owned & played many vidja games and I'm sure I'll get around to more sooner or later. Most of my coworkers are game developers or 3D artists and I've dabbled in both of those disciplines as well. If we stick together long enough my team at work will likely spin off a game studio or three.

I definitely don't hear as much s**t talking directed my way as many of my coworkers, probably because I focus more on not being physiologically geeky.

I hear ya. I have been "stereotyped" at work before, by several people. These are the same people that have their nose stuck in their cell phones, and are on Facebook 24/7. One lady told me that I should go outside and enjoy the sun, instead of playing video games...what she don't know is, I actually do go outside alot, and enjoy spending time in nature, and very rarely do I play video games.

yeah people on their phones at work annoy me. i guess they don't take the job as serious, i mean it is just cashiering, but I give any work all I have and try to do my best.

I do play video games a lot i guess. not nearly as much as i use to. but not not much else to do alone in my room besides that or tv. I like the outdoors giving bug spray, but i don't/can't go out alone.I miss camping a lot, but no one to go with anymore. camping/shooting/hiking are things best done with others if just for safety.

people are hypocrites. playing ps4 is bad, playing candy crush is normal. o.O atleast my games have substance. isn't candy crush just a modern jeweled?

I do go outside a lot, but like yourself, there are a lot of things I don't do, simply because I don't have anyone to do those things with. I guess you could always do stuff by yourself, but sometimes, it's just better with other people around.

Do you wear glasses Silverstar?

I've noticed that glasses are the first thing people associate to geekiness and social awkwardness.

I do, but they are actually somewhat stylish looking (I suppose). I think the main problem, was that I mentioned something about working with computers...to a big mouth... and it just snowballed from there.
