I'm a member on AVEN now, too, even though I'm technically grace (i.e. gray/borderline asexual) and not ace. I see a lot of Aspies on there. What do you think--are Aspie and ace correlated? Does that mean causation (it doesn't always)? Is there another explanation?

I think there's possibly some correlation. Possibly, the incidence of asexuality among people with autism might be higher than within the "general population." This is why I put "maybe."

However, I would say that most people with autism are not asexual.

I think they're probably less-likely to view porn regularly, even when celibate for many years. And that's probably related to them having asexual-tendencies whether they actually are one or not.

I know it is (at least neurodiversity), and I have a manuscript on peer-review on this issue. However, the main point of the paper is that asexuality really is a misnomer, as most neurodiverse people that identify as asexual dislike neurotypical relationship preferences, and in particular regular sexual intercourse.

This may be the wrong forum to ask about asexuality in. I've actually never posted in this forum before that I can recall, because I assumed as an asexual that there'd be nothing in here for me.

I am not asexual, but my sister is asexual.

We have people of all sexual persuasions here--even quite a few asexuals (I think they're also called "aces.")

Given the tendency of ASD to be paired up with other disorders (co-morbidity), I have no problem believing it might be paired up with non-mainstream sexual orientations. But I for one am certainly a flaming heterosexual guy, and unfortunately I have tended not to get along with the (few) self-proclaimed asexuals I've met. I couldn't care less if they didn't want sex for themselves, but from I've seen, they're prone to an aggressively sex-negative pseudo-feminism that sees "objectification" everywhere and I have always found insufferable. I presume this is either because people with non-mainstream orientations are more likely to get sucked into anything with social-justice pretensions (for understandable reasons), or because they don't understand what they themselves don't experience. Which is actually a bit like the divide between ASD and NTs if you think about it.

On a semi-related note, I myself have wondered if ASD individuals who are sexual are more prone to have fetishes, due to our general propensity towards obsessiveness, but that's for another thread.

If think they are, and I think asexual people are as well. As I wrote before, asexual is mostly a misnomer for "I dislike sexual intercourse" and not similar to "I dislike all types of sex".

I'm on the asexuality spectrum & I'm not sure if my Aspergers is part of the reason or not.

I am about to have psycho-sexual health therapy to try and determine whether or not I have a sexual interest in females. After what transpired in my last intimate relationship, I do now strongly suspect that I am asexual. It warms me to see other people smile and laugh, but in terms of arousal, there is absolutely nothing there. Naturally my alienation from the rest of mankind should grow even further.

I do think there may be a higher percentage of asexual (and grayasexual and whatever else the asexual spectrum is, I'm not sure) people within autism than without it, but at the same time there are people here who are incredibly sexual. Might be a correlation but might also be equal. I'm gonna go with "maybe". I'm pretty certain I'm asexual, but maybe I might just be very close to it, who knows?
