A girl on my previous course who I hardly talk to unless around other people. She followed me on Instagram . What would be the best way to proceed considering I am unlikely to see her in person

Personally I usually find out what they enjoy doing and then invite them out to a relevant place. I.e. if they enjoy plays, go to the theater or just go simple and ask to do dinner. I'm of the mind that first dates should be ones where you can talk at some length. No reason to just sit near each other.
