I am 17, and I wrote a letter to a childhood friend who I knew back in the 3rd grade..... I tried to add her on facebook, but her account was private and she didn't add me.... she did not have a google plus, or twitter, or anything, and she seemed to block me on instagram.... our parents used to be good friend, and we went to the same Kazakh Nur cemaat community center (the nur cemaat is a religious group started by bediuzzaman said nursi).... i tried writing a letter before, but it went to the wrong address, and my mother forbid me from writing to her.... my mom said i had to move on, but i finally found her new address, got a stamp from a neighbor, and put the letter in my mail box with the flag up, but i pray to God that my mother does not find out.....i am very awkward, and can't make friends at my school....i also am in a special ed part of the school, with smaller classes.....did i make the right choice? EDIT: I moved away from Georgia in the 3rd grade, and knew her for 4 years...

Why did your mom forbid you from writing to her?

because she said i was friends with the girl so long ago, and i should move on.... she said i am being a loser for trying to be friends with a childhood friend, and also because her father probably doesn't let his daughter talk to boys (for religious reasons)

I would have given it a shot.

Some people might find it 'creepy' though that you figured out their address, but that's not guaranteed. She might just assume you remembered it.

Either way you had no other way of contact and you wanted the slightest possibility of having this person back in your life.

Imho, I find it kind of noble and a sign of perseverance.

You set a letter, meh. I just wouldn't get your hopes up on a response - if this girl wanted to have stayed in touch with you or to re-get in touch with you, she could and would have done so.
