I'm a sophomore right now, still another year to go before prom. But my biggest fear about junior and senior years, even more than not getting straight A's, is that I won't be able to get a prom date. This one senior at my school who's kind of geeky (not sure if he has any kind of roblems) has posted a couple notes on facebook recently about how he can't get a prom date. He said he's tried extremely hard and has been turned down by 19 girls. I don't think "being myself" would get me a prom date since that would mean me being quiet and afraid to ask out of fear of rejection. What are your experiences with asking someone to the prom?

Proms are overrated. Proms suck. Given the choice of Starcraft and a prom date...its obvious which is more fun.

I ran into that situation last year for my problem. I asked my friend Robyn to go with me. She said no, which was OK, mostly because she was unattainable for everyone (I wasn't the first to try, but I actually got the farthest out of anyone with her). So I went with my friends, and I had a good time. Truthfully, going stag frees you up to talk to more people and have more fun.

Why are you worried? I'm a senior and I'm not going to prom. I'm not upset about it in the least bit. I'm gonna spend prom night the same way I spend every friday night: working, going home, and watching a nice intelligent movie with some pita chips and hummus.

I for one wouldn't have liked prom even if I'd had a date. They'd have played annoying music I didn't like (basically all of it was rap, apparently).

Hahahaha I still can't imagine how anyone could dance to rap. It just doesn't make sense to me.

Actually, going stag is becoming more common, at least in my highscool. I had a great time regardless of having a date.

I was faced with the possibility of two proms when I was coming towards the end of my schooldays.

I had no date planned, nobody worth asking and nobody to ask me. Subsequently I attended neither, since I had no interest in putting even the remotest effort in my appearance for the sake of one night. Not only that, but it was £25 a ticket for one of the proms, and all that went on there was a lot of clandestine bonking in the school shrubbery. I weighed up the cost of the ticket against the miniscule chance of aquainting myself with a lucky lady amongst the Acers and decided to spend my cash on SimCity 4 instead.

I still play that game, so I think I made the right decision. :)

I went just for the music but I liked spending my time in the library reading. My ears would start to hurt from the loud music so I'd leave the gym to give my ear drums a rest so they won't hurt for the next few days. Plus I leave the gym when they play music I don't like. I only had one prom date but it was just luck because he couldn't go unless he had a date so he asked me to go because I didn't have one either.

To avoid this conundrum I decided not to go to the prom at all. Furthermore, the idea of attending a dance was not attractive to me. I'd never even been on a date at the time.

So, if I were you I'd just opt out and save yourself the hassle, the cost, the awkwardness, and the negative emotions. But, if you're dead-set on going then you'll have to ask out a ton of girls and increase your odds through numbers. Ask out unpopular girls also.

I never went to my own High School prom. I only went to two dances in my entire life and all I ever did was play the games available.

I went to my senior prom on saturday. It wasn't that great. The gf kept ditching me for random reasons for 20 minutes at a time....They also mostly played rap like "Snoop Dogg" and that one "Skeet Skeet" 'song' if you can call it that. I like dancing to good music, but they only had like 3-5 good songs in the whole 3-hour period.

Gods, I forgot that modern music took such a nose dive.
I guess proms would just be hell.
