First date ideas for teens?

So on Friday I got asked out by a former classmate of mine. What happened was that I was online and saw a pic of his on Instagram that I liked, so I commented on it. He later messaged me, we got into a conversation about impersonal things, then he confessed that he has liked me since Grade 9, when we had a class together (We are both Grade 11) and he asked me out. We used to talk a bit back then he seems nice and he's cute, so I said yes. I need some advice on how to act cuz I have no experience whatsoever with this kind of stuff. We're hanging out tmrw at school before we go on an official date and I am a little nervous. I am also stuck for ideas on what kind of stuff/activities is typical for a first date for teens (preferably not expensive/free). Any tips or anything I should know?

Get ice cream together somewhere near the school. (Although smoothies or pay-by-ounce frozen yogurt seem trendier.) It seems like a perfect teenage date venue. You can also do something active, like miniature golf. Heck, I've had first dates at all those as an adult, with decent success. One major caveat for you: if one or both of you aren't popular, do not go to places where many kids at your school go. Just don't; take my word for it.

Also, I don't know how the high school dating culture changed since year 2000, but back then, when I was in high school, a guy absolutely had to have a car to even have a shot at getting a date. But it's 2016 now. Are you two walking to the dating venue, or is he driving you? It affects what venues you can go to.

^ all the girls i knew and went out with on dates (that is, two), didn't mind at all if i had a car or not and we would simply walk.

i think i'd actually prefer to walk instead of drive, that way more of my attention is on her and not on scraping the blokes parked to the right of me or running over jaywalkers. but there is something to be said about listening to music with your date, on a mellow cruise...

little things like minigolf, ice cream, movies are a classic and have not failed me yet. i would not get too personal on your first. save that for later.

for my first date, we went to a hawaiian grill place (that is now closed), watched youtube poops and went to a costume store and looked at all the wacky outfits. that was very memorable.

To reply to the comments about having a car. I live in the city, and around here only a few have their learners permit, and no one owns cars due to expenses. Usually we just walk or take public transit, so it doesn't affect your ability to get dates. At least not where I live. I hung out with him at school today, in the library. It was honestly a little awkward, as he is a quiet kid and so am I. He seemed really nervous as well. We are probably gonna arrange outside of school for a later date.

Both of us aren't really "popular", we're kind of in the middle of the social chain, so staying in the library was the best bet as at the mall and other places, you have a 95% chance of seeing "popular" kids.

i've started, been to in the middle of, and ended dates at libraries. done things i regret there.

Dinner, movie, and a stroll in the park. It's good for dating in all ages.

Malls are places where people with no originality hang out.

Personally I find eating with someone I don't know well kind of stressful. Do I have gunk on my face? Am I chewing weirdly? Eating too fast? Etc. But a smoothie that you drink is easy enough.
I also like the movie idea given. This gives you some time to settle your nervousness and then you have a topic to discuss.
Playing some kind of board game or card game even if or especially if one person is teaching the other something simple can be very bonding and keeps you from having to think up conversational ideas.
Be honest about what you do and do not like. This is a possible beginning of a longer relationship so dont lay down a false foundation. Express your opinions and find out his. Don' t be who you think he expects you to be but take a moment as you talk to think your own thoughts and discover if this person is someone you enjoy being around.
