The long hair look didn't seem to work for me.

In 2006 aged 16 I remember when i had mega long hair some girls thought it was quite sexy on me but when I started college I got my hair cut a bit shorter. Then 3 years later I attempted to grow my hair very hair long again and i was expecting girls at college to fall at my feet but this time round it just didn't work for me and it actually made me a lot more unattractive to girls. then in 2010 I decided I had enough and got my hair cut a lot shorter Currently my hair is short at the sides and long on top but these days I am much more attractive to women compared to 2009.

I asked my mom why the long hair look didn't work for the second time round and she said "sometimes long hair suits a certain time and a place". Back in 2009 though I was quite heavy and had a double chin and that combined with long hair is unflattering

Do you think my mom made a good point about long hair becoming out of fashion?

No I think your mum is wrong, I don't think it does go out of fasion, but you need to look correct with it. But that's the same with any hair style some suit you and some don't. But the rest of your face is involved as well so they have to complement each other.

Is a double chin unflattering with long hair?

Agree with his.

Personally speaking I wouldn't grow my hair long because it's the not style I'm aiming for. And, because my hair can't be grown... it's just that type of hair LOL... I ain't got straight hair... so when it grows it becomes abit curly. I must say though hair and fashion is culture related. Where I live long hair suits certain styles and thus attracts certain people/girls (Metal fans... etc...)

I think your mom is correct.

Hairstyle trends come and go with other fashion & aesthetic trends. There was a time and a place for an undercut or mushroom cut in the early 90's, but it's really dorky on most people today.. because it's out of style.

Long hair does tend to suit some people better and so they keep it forever.. but I bet if you asked them they'd tell you that they get more positive attention during times when long hair is in style.

Same goes for beards. Here, beards have been really "in" the last year or two. I grew a beard for my Halloween costume last year and then kept it. I've gotten quite a few compliments on it from beard fans, straight girls, and guys who wish they could grow good beards. Overall I'd have to say that it's been more of a deterrent to gay guys than an attractive feature. IF life were all about attracting gay boys right now I'd be clean shaven all day every day, but, I kinda dig the beard thing a bit and others' perception of it.. it has a certain "power" to it. Plus I think I'm going to keep it going for a different Halloween costume this year.

Anyways, whether hair or beards or other fashion trends.. there's a time and a place and a people in terms of target market. If you want to be attractive to certain people at a certain time in a certain place, then you've got to go with the flow of what's in trend and do your best at it.
