Is it better to be in a relationship with someone who shares the same interests as you?
Or would it not really matter as long as they didn't hate them?

I think, with mine, cats is the most important, then history, then music.

People can learn to share one another's interests.
But only if they have some capacity in that direction.
I got my wife to be the best gaming partner that
I've ever had; there was some cost though - our
biggest argument started over a game, and ended
up nearly breaking us apart in our first year.

You have to have at least some interests...and from what I can tell you LOVE cats...so well, you need a cat lover of some sorts...

or someone who loves you enough to deal with it anyway...but I think eventually you need to LOVE the same things or it just becomes an irritation to the other person because they feel they are giving you something by trying to share your interest.

History is probably my main obsession actually, but cats is my more obvious one, so I think anyone prepared to put up with me would have to like cats. :)

I can't imagine spending long periods of
time discussing cats. History, on the other
hand....

I don't talk about cats that much I don't think. I would just want someone that would like having a cat, and sit with them, and talk to them, and not mind that I treat them like a human. I don't talk about history at all now really because I'm used to people not being interested. But I would do if it was my girlfriend. I'd drag them to museums with me, do you think that would irritate people?

No. Not the kind of person that you're suited
for. My wife used to do that to me. I love history,
I'm just lazy as sin. There are plenty of people
who share your passion; you just have to get
into activities where you can meet them.

What areas of history are you most interested
in? Are there any museums near you - you could
volunteer at them.

I like any history really, mostly modern history now though. We have a ot o museums in my area, the easiest one to get to is mainly about Egyptian/Roman etc in terms of history. It's good, I sometimes walk round there when I have free time after lectures because my university is on the same road.
There's never anyone good there though, just teachers bringing their class, or 30+ women bringing their kids. Not that there's anything wrong with teachers or women over 30, but I'm only 18.

Or you could try and get work with cats - at a rescue center, or a cattery.

I've been thinking about that actually, there's a catery just round the corner from my house, it'd only take about 3 minutes to walk there. But I think I've probably left it a bit late now, I don't want a job or anything for when I start my second year at uni because I'd end up never getting any work done. It's mostly old women and kids that live round here as well. :(

I'd presume that you're taking at least
some classes in History. Try to
be more active in them. I've found
speaking up leads to interesting
debates, and maybe friendships.

What about a History club at the
Uni? Seems likely.

My course I'm doing at university is just history every day. But no one seems obsessed like I am so I try and keep quiet about it. Because of my social anxiety I'm terrible at talking out loud in groups as well, so I just sit there when there are other people. I guess I can just wait and see what happens though.

Ah, hadn't thought of that. I'm in my second year, and I don't have the time for a job. But you could always find a cat rescue center to volunteer at in the holiday, or something similar. It could be a good chance to meet people with similar interests, and I'd have thought they'd be easy to work with - after all, being a nice person is a pre-requisit of being a volunteer at a cat shelter, isn't it? :P

Yeh, I find it easier to get along with cat people :D
I might look into the one round the corner from me. Or I'll just stick to hoping I'll randomly find someone else who likes cats and history wondering through the Egyptian section at the museum :P
