I've been chatting to this girl for about a week. We seemed to get on really well. Today I worked up the courage to ask her out.

She said no because I'm older than her. She's 18. I'm 29. She then said she really liked me and she thought she would be happy in a relationship with me if we were both the same age.

Here's the thing, by 29, the good women are either married or in long term relationships. I told her this and she agreed. In late teens early twenties girls are more likely to be single but they won't date you if you're in your late twenties, you're too old. The 29 year old girls won't date you either because they're not single.

Has anyone experienced this kind of catch-22 scenario? Has anyone got a solution for it?

That is true. By 29 there are only loser guys like me left.

Maybe you should give the women your age a chance then?

I did. By 29 the only single girls are either obese or have mental health problems. A few months ago I dated a 29 year old girl who had both of these problems. Never again. Obesity means she doesn't look after herself in other ways and her mental health problems made being in a relationship with her extremely difficult.

Now how do you expect an attractive, mentally healthy, 29 year old girl was a good personality to have made it up to 29 years old without already finding a boyfriend that age? What are the odds of that? Does she come from a tribe of Amazons that doesn't have men?

That is why I don't want to date 29 year olds, not because it's too old but because they're either taken or have issues.

I'm probably not cut out for dating anyway. I hate myself so much that I see myself as unworthy of decent girls so I'd get all confused if one actually liked me.

Yes I know it's hypocritical of me to criticize my ex for having mental health problems when I'm mentally disturbed as well but two wrongs don't make a right and having both of us be incurable nutcases just compounded the problem.

The older I get, the easier it is for me to appeal to women.

Anyway,

1. Are there less single girls in the late 20s age group?

2. Are the single girls in their late 20s less desirable than the girls who found a partner before reaching late 20s?

Don't they get scared off by your wedding ring?

I don't. But you're asking women to accept less than you're willing to accept.

1. I don't wear a ring.

2. It's just been easier for me to appeal to women in general---not necessarily for the purpose of dating.

3. Women dig experience.

So in other words, flings and casual sex are more important than meaningful relationships. Figures.

The ones who perceived me as a 'playboy' were the ones who were the most clingy toward me.

You totally misinterpreted me, buddy.

I didn't mean in a sexual sense at all.

Just being in your 30's, and acting like it, induces people to respect you, and to find you more appealing.

It'll get easier once Retrogamer gets in his 30's. He'll have 20-somethings all over him.

One thing one should keep in mind: Married people, unfortunately, get divorced.

Fortunate for the single man in his 30's, though.

In most societies, the age difference can be overcome by amassing wealth. The president elect of the USA is 24 years older than his wife. Its because he is rich.

And I stopped being promiscuous after the age of 29.

Not in all cases. My parents are in their mid-50s and have been happily married (to each other no less) for 20+ years. Granted, though, divorce rates are saddeningly high in pretty much every corner of the Earth.
