Granted it takes much longer than any of our lifetimes, or even if we combined our lifetimes. The only way that they can be sustained here indefinitely is under high pressure and high temperature conditions (like under the Earth's crust). Anything containing enough carbon content (yes, even human bodies) can be converted into a diamond form when the above conditions are met.
Yes, I have ticked off quite a few jewelers saying this little tidbit.
