I think I may have just ruined my chances with another girl. We were getting along really well, have been talking nonstop and had a movie date set up for this Thursday. Things were going so well, in fact, that I decided to send her a friend request on Facebook. For those of you who don't know, you can find people on Facebook just by putting in their phone number. That's what I did. Suddenly, her Facebook profile disappears, her dating site profile disappears, and her texts stop. Did I just brand myself as a creepy online stalker?

wait you met her online?

If that's the case then the fact that you then managed to randomly find her facebook without her telling you her full name is pretty frightening for her. You have to be careful online after all and that could frighten someone off.

next time even if you want to have a look at someones fb profile dont add them until they give you their full name or you ask 'whats your facebook'

So I'm guessing this isn't something most people know about. If it's that creepy or potentially dangerous, why does Facebook allow people to do it? I kind of assumed everyone knew about it.

its an easy mistake to make so dont worry about it too much. I guess facebook doesn't really care too much about safety.

I'm not worrying about it too much, but... dang it, there goes another. This is all pointless, isn't it? Even when somebody seems to take a legitimate interest in me, they run screaming the first time I step the slightest bit out of line.

It doesn't seem weird to me. I research and google people I know based on small leads all the time. I look up their court records and just about anything I can find online. It's a hobby for me really. If they don't want people to see their profiles, then they should make it private. It's not like I'm hacking into their stuff or following them to work. Although if I found their Facebook I wouldn't try to add them or anything like that because it's awkward. They should take it as a compliment that someone finds them that interesting to put the effort into researching them. It's not stalking until you start crossing boundaries, like showing up at their work and harassing them for example. They're just being paranoid and dramatic.

thats the difference though, you didnt add people.

I looked up people on fb all the time but it freaks them out when you add them. I had a guy add me without having my number or knowing my name. I can only assume he searched by my picture

If she really liked you she wouldn't have done that.
She didn't do it because it was stalkish even if she claimed so - if her crush did the exact same she would have been overjoyed.

When you added her she knew that you like her but she doesn't want you; hence blocked all your contacts.

Girls do that looking-up thing on fb too; I got that a month ago, she stalked me via my number:

And I got others before.

But yeah, I don't recommend you to do it; because.... you are a guy and that automatically makes you way more likely to be stigmatized if you do any stalking-like behavior; most "stalker" jokes in media and memes portray a male character, well.... except the popular 'obsessive girlfriend' who broke this male exclusivity.

No matter how you people deny it here over and over; a same X act may be viewed differently depending on the gender of the person doing it, and with which gender. Your gender is a fundemental part in how people view you and judge you for some behavior.

So yeah...AdamGuy, don't do this again.

Some people don't mind, but it can make the creeper person seem too eager. They might have had a bad experience previously. Some people are really nervous about people they just met, or met online only.

Creep them, secretly, but ask if it is okay to add them. Especially if you haven't met irl. I wouldn't want a dating site guy to be on my Facebook when we never even met.

I agree. If she was into you then she wouldn't mind any sort of attention from you.

Wait a minute what i don't understand is that she was going to go to a movie with you. She would surely have met you then so what is a difference if you added her on facebook.

I don't think you did anything wrong or creepy. Different people use Facebook in different ways. Some people try to get as many Facebook friends as possible and some reserve Facebook for those close to them, and it's a big step for them to add new friends. She was probably in the latter category, and skittish on top of that. I wouldn't worry about it.

I imagine if he were her crush, she would be more familiar with him. Personally, I don't add people I've just recently met, regardless of how attracted I am to them.

Be real, she wouldn't block him if he was her crush.

And I am totally sure you wouldn't block him too, even if you don't add him.
