The thread title refers to a well-known anime that explores the ways people relate to AI and androids. Some characters exploit them, some see them as cute smartphones, some characters use them as substitutes for people in various ways. The main character ends up dating an android without ever meaning to. He has decide whether to make the socially acceptable choice, or to admit that he's falling for an advanced AI with an attractive case.

We're not there yet, but sex robots are a reality. Some have settings to make them ready to go at any time, but others take a little warming up. They have something like AI.

The moral panic is a reality, but for some people here, having a warm body to hold at night could make a big difference. Talk to your doctor about a prescription.

I'd consider hooking up with an android but I'll have to clear it with them first.

Jokes aside..It raises another question - Given the chance, would a being with AI really choose to date us?

Now if you'd said something about vampires...*currently watching hellsing again*...

Take a look at this film if you haven't already seen it, OP.

Yeah I did and it's quite relate-able to this topic!

Some may need the physical comfort or an avatar to interact with.
Others simply happy with the soul of the other person being in their presence.

the moment i read the OP, my first thoughts were of this film for exactly that reason...it's in similar territory.

i think personally, as time goes on, we're gonna get to the place where "love" and how it works for people will become a very fluid thing. i can see android-love, i really can, in the future.

ps. OT but...watch skeletons if you haven't seen it. interesting film as well.

This, I like. Mandate programmed choice? Fasi-effing-nating.

I'll try to check the movie out soon. I really have thought about the ethics of AI, including the ethics of over-engineering a system to do a simple task.

Just for fun, can AI improve sex using big data? Could an AI eventually replicate their success at chess in bed?

Back it up a level, then. Can AI improve the theory of sexual relations? I get that finding a mate is not like loading shipping containers, but data does a lot of surprising things. Do people expect to find an algorithm for attraction? How about an AI arranged marriage? Can AI help AS understand NT?

Maybe I shouldn't ask. Do we need an analogue to age of majority for AI? Should an AI have to reach a certain level of sophistication before they can index explicit material?

Yeah, or a 5 3/4 inch floppy drive.

Perhaps this topic belongs in technology subforum.
