Does my profile picture look ugly or foolish? Do I need a new one for dating sites?

the arcade cabinet might put some people off. some may assume crap about you that most likely isn't true, but the final choice is yours.

just a thought, but the mere amount of background may be a bit much. maybe crop it?

of course, if you're planning on retaking it altogether i'd opt for an outdoor setting, if you have a camera. i like outdoor pictures.

I guess the arcade cabinet would put some people off. On the dating site the picture is cropped. This is what they would normally see. They don't see the full picture unless they go into the gallery view and then expand the picture.

Outdoors is generally best for both lighting purposes and it implies you're not a shut-in. Find somewhere that contrasts well with you so you stand out.

Arcade cabinets are awesome though. :D

You may try making your profile picture one of you having fun doing something you enjoy. For example, mine is of me at an Amon Amarth concert flanked by two people in viking costume. Full disclosure: this hasn't been successful in securing a girlfriend, but I think you're more likely to get responses with a picture that conveys fun and excitement.

All these advices are clichés.

The reality is, the pic background doesn't matter much (if there's nothing terrible).
What really matter is whether they find you handsome or not.

I actually don't see anything wrong with the avatar. It's pretty cool.

Which game is it?

Yeah. Seems much like me you might not be so good at facial expressions for the camera.
Maybe try a shot slightly from the side?

They are! The type of girl who has a problem with my arcade cabinet is not the girl for me. I think relationships should be fun. I don't want to date Ms NoFun. It's a two player arcade cabinet so the right kind of girl could play it with me :D

Actually this was my main concern. I wasn't too worried about the background. My real worry is, do I look handsome in that picture? Would my face look better if it was photographed differently or with a different expression?

Do I look bad became of the photo conditions / my facial expression? Do I just look bad in general? Or is the photo ok?

Only females and gays can answer that; but I suspect they will be blunty honest if it's negative.

One thing for sure: women receive TONS of messages and they mass-filter by thumbnail pictures in almost "hot or not" mode.
Them while scrolling over those thumbnails wouldn't be like "Oh, this photo isn't outdoor, oh there's a flipper cabinet then I won't reply".

They would be more like "No hot, not hot, not hot, not hot - oh, this one is so handsome, let's read his first line..."

This how it happens.

And honestly you look so....boyish, like a 14-15 old guy; they may find you cute but I bet it's not a sexually appealing trait to most women.
It is not a coincidence that you lately got dates only with Asians: them are way more likely to be used to "boyish" look in men.

Try to grow some beard; it's trendy in our era.

I found that my beard helped me. I look 12 without it and honestly I prefer it now and luckily enough for me I can grow a majestic beard, if I do say so myself. It definitely, makes me appear more manly. I've also noticed people are a lot nicer to me when I have my beard... Maybe they are intimidated? Maybe I look NT? I'm not sure, I just know it works for me on many levels.

I've been in a relationship for almost 3 years and the beard was definitely an attraction for my wife.

My partner was almost repulsed when I trimmed it too much- she told never to do it again because I look like 21 without it (and she's 38 now). She likes 5-10 days old beards.
