I've been talking to a girl online for about a week and we've been hitting it off really well. I actually thought there was something between us. But when I asked her out she said that I remind her too much of her brother and that we should just be friends because dating would be weird. Is that normal or was she just trying to not hurt my feelings?

It means she's not attracted to you and didn't want to hurt your feelings.

Maybe you do indeed remind her a lot of her brother but she's NOT attracted to those characteristics in anyone not because her brother has em but she's just not into that for other reasons.
