Only positive things are allowed in this thread (including responses to others' posts). It's not a place to brag or gloat, but a place to celebrate the small things. Did you do something today that might (or did!) help you towards your L&D goals?

There's a thread about personal improvement, which is great. This one is more all-encompassing. Any step forward that you took.

I'll give some examples that I can come up with, but I'm not you - I'd love to see some really cool stuff I never even thought of. It might inspire others also.

- You finally smiled at that girl in class. It doesn't matter if she smiled back - this was progress! Your effort is worth celebrating. Maybe you learned something from the experience.

- You joined that social group you've been curious about but also scared of. Okay so you haven't actually attended an event yet, but joining the group is a step forward!

- You swapped your first half hour of gaming for a walk around the local park. You thought you'd do something positive towards relieving your depression and ultimately being in a better headspace to meet someone, awesome!

- You sent a message to someone on a dating site. I don't care if it was a "hey" or a two page essay - in terms of progress, this is new for you and it's great you gave it a go!

Remember, getting out of your comfort zone can be really rewarding. Crossing boundaries is not. Make sure you know the difference between the two, and focus on the former.

People have different goals, so there could be all sorts of possibilities here. You can just share what you did, or you can also reflect on how it went and what you learned. If it didn't seem to go well, what could you learn from that? How can you use that to do better next time? I challenge you to see your efforts as positive :)

I'll start with yesterday, because today hasn't really started for me yet.

Yesterday I was about to go microwave some popcorn and slouch in front of the TV, but I changed my mind and went for a jog. One of my goals is to create the physical body I want for myself, so when I meet someone, they are meeting the "me" I see myself as, or at least as close as I can get with the biology I'm given.

I had a good tennis lesson today. All in all, it was a fun day.

I saw an animal show called "Too Cute." There were a lot of adorable cats and kittens that looked a lot like kitties I had.

I want to add to that by saying even just because you’re IAR or even married doesn’t mean the ride is over. We have our ups and downs, and I don’t really bring those up on WP very often. Just because you got the girl or boy doesn’t mean you stop dating that person. Some pressure is off, but then you have new pressures to deal with.

So, two things I can contribute:

Last week during my weight lifting time, I added ONE rep to my incline flies and presses. Previously I did 5 sets, 15 reps with 20 lb dumbbells. Now I do 5 sets, 16 reps. Small victories. And NEXT week I’ll do 4 sets of 20. Same number of total reps, just longer sets. My goal is to get to 100 total reps before increasing my weight.

The missus defo notices the change in my shoulders and chest.

I won’t bore anyone with my cardio and running. I finished a half marathon in under 2 hours, which is huge for me. So this week I’m challenging myself to sprints to prepare for an upcoming 10k and 5k next month.

I’m not meaning to brag. It’s just that I never believed I could get here, and the changes in my body and how she looks at me have been so encouraging. When you start small and snowball it into something awesome, you’ll be amazed how easy it really is.

Oh...and I scratched my wife’s back last
night.

I have some ideas about my future that seem unusual, but very exciting to contemplate. I hope one day to realize my dream of going to a tennis tournament and meeting my favorite players, particularly Denis Istomin, whose story is a source of inspiration to me. His story gives me hope that I can overcome my challenges and succeed, even though mine are nowhere near as dramatic as his.

Have you got a bit of space in your home to do workouts? You only need enough room to be able to squat, lunge, fit a barbell or dumbbells, raise your arms...maybe a bit extra if you're unco like me ;)

I have a 1’x1’ space in front of my bed that’s it. To the front is my tv to the right is my desk and to the left is a pile of clothes and stuff. Behind it is my bed, closet, and ceded chest I made. I spend most my time laying or sitting on my bed.

The result would be the same if I had room. It’s a motivation issue.
If I feel good if I’ve gone to the gym, and I don’t over eat. I feel I’ll go everyday, problem is most days I don’t feel good, I don’t go and I over eat to drown my sorrows.
If I had gf I’d probably go. As is I lack motivation and control.
We’ll see how tomorrow is. There’s other issues too thst relate to my control and emotions of you want to talk about it pm me. You wanted this to be positive though.

Sorry. All I did today was laundry and mow the lawn

My fitness coach was asked: "What do you do when you have no motivation to do a workout?"
Her response: "I do it anyway."

Such people have no idea what no motivation is. It’s not even getting out of bed.
They’ve never lacked motivation it’s why they are a fitness coach.
If I was a fitness coach the answer would have been nothing cause I’m not there due to no motivation.
Tried to be funny.

Success comes in many forms. Making steps to becoming a more motivated person can make positive impressions on others.

(MrsPeel, I guess you could say I'm saying "good for you!" )
Good for you, MrsPeel!

I have cut sugars and carbs a lot from my diet. Today was the first time I properly shaved all my facial hair in months. I often use it to disguise what I've always felt was a plump face. For the first time in four years I feel comfortable without facial hair. :) yay, weight loss.

Sly, that is AWESOME! Keep going with it.

My goal for going into the off-season, which is coming up FAST, is to burn 2,000 calories a day. I’m at a point that my regular workout is no longer challenging. No leg soreness. Upper chest is a little bit sore, but nothing that slows me down. I’m giving it one more month before I increase my weights, and I’m adding back squats when I do that.

Ok...had another small victory today. SO and I got up at 4am to go work out together.

Out of curiosity, what do you think? Is working out together good date potential? Conversation and flirting over curls? Running a 5k or 10k together? I would think “real” distance running, like half or full marathon might be a drag because of the concentration and “zoning out.” I know by mile 8 I’m really not conversational. But a lot of runs are attached to local festivities. I ran a 5k in Leland, MS, which is “running distance,” haha, from where I live. It was freezing cold and all I had was a short sleeve tech shirt and running shorts in late November. Afterwards there was all-you-can-drink local craft beer and a people’s choice chili contest. It ended up being much fun for all.

Working out at first might seem hellish, but if it’s something you can share with a friend or romantic partner, it can be even more motivating.

So...gym date. Pass or fail?
