There is this girl who I don't know but I want to get to know her because I seen her around campus for the semester and she is very shy, she reminds me of myself when I was in high school. I only talked to her one time and that was when I saw her eating this small food from this small container (which is something I see her do sometimes) and I mentioned to her that the food looked good. She said thank you but I want to actually approach her. I want to introduce myself to her like hello my name is eric, whats your name? but is that the right way? is there a better way to do it?

In a nutshell, yes.

One of my fav memories was the time I started dating a pianist by volunteering to be her page-turner while she accompanied clarinet students. She had albinism and was legally blind and not the kind of girl who’d approach men on her own. So I took my time, watched her, and one day caught her walking to lunch alone. I caught up with her, started talking to her, had lunch...and EVENTUALLY asked her out. We were together for
about a year and a half.

I’d suggest watch her at a distance, observe any noticeable habits, and use that to gauge your timing.

But, yeah...I think you pretty much have the right idea. Go for it, see what happens.

Maybe nothing happens. Maybe she’s like “eeeeeew! Go away, creep!” Maybe you become friends, possibly more. You get nowhere if you don’t try.
