There was this really random generic looking guy at the party we were at.

My stepdad came to me before the party started and said 'there's this hunk there, he's really friendly'.

Stepdad knows my type and he wasn't it.

Why bother telling me there's a cute guy when he isn't cute?

Also, why tell me in general? Is it to set me up with someone? Why comment on his appearance rather than just that he's friendly?

Stepdad is undiagnosed but considers himself on the spectrum and he has a lot in common with people on the spectrum. Stepdad is 75 and straight, this guy was about 35 and I have no idea, I'm 31 and bi but leaning towards women and feminine men (which this guy wasn't).

Also the guy had a baby... So either he's not long out of a relationship or he's married with kids. Not at the same stage of life as me at all...

Why did he tell me? Like what did he want me to do with that information? Esp cos I didn't agree and he knew I wouldn't?

May be he was thinking that you are looking for a friend and thought him being nice for you even that the things don't really work this way.

Yeah but at best this guy is just out of a relationship.

I don't understand why women crowd around guys with babies. Obviously the guy with a baby 'made' that baby about 12 months ago (the baby was about 3 months old) with his wife or girlfriend.

Unless you mean actual platonic friend in which case, why mention he's a hunk? That just makes it awkward.

He may of had a one night stand or the girl was totally using him & he's soo over it.

I don't care on a shallow level he's not my type and on a not shallow level he's a dad with a baby and I'm really not ready for parenthood.

The "hunk" comment seems completely unnecessary and weird if he signalled the guy just as a friend, so I would be inclined to think he was trying to fix you up.

I don't know him so I can only speculate, but I noticed most parents trying to pair up their kids make terrible suggestions, as they pick what they like, not what their kids like and when their kids have what they consider "unusual" taste/life-styles they hold on to the conviction that they'll "grow out of it".

So maybe he's secretly hoping that you'll settle down with a "nice man" (whatever that means to him, not you) and have babies etc. Since you don't want kids, he might have seen this either as a BOGOF type of deal  or even thought that being around a baby might bring out your maternal instincts (I know, terrible idea, but many people think this way).

That word sounds like he's calling the guy a slab of meat. People don't think of these words as objectifying men, but they do. Double standard here, and the men get the short end of the stick. A hunk sounds like a man who is brawny and dumb as a stump. It's really insulting, if you think about it.

Yeah that's true. He's the same with women though. He hates your typical 'bimbo' though and lets you know it by calling them that and really insulting their looks/choice of presentation. He describes everyone as bluntly as that including 'ugly' people...

I asked him about it and he said 'I knew he wasn't your type, I just said it cos I thought he'd have the women swarming around him cos he's an injured footballer'.

Also he already has 6 grandkids and one of the things he's blunt about is that I shouldn't push myself too much (sometimes he's annoying about that, apparently artists shouldn't know how to cook basic meals...) which... raising kids is hard work...
