'asking someone out' has different meanings in the UK.
1. Asking someone to be your significant other
2. Start a fight
I have had both.
I have also been asked to leave a premises at closing time - usually a pub

This could be another interesting US/UK language thread (since it may have been pre-derailed by the OP).
To be "asked out" in US parlance exclusively means "asked to go on a social/romantic date."
But the other possible (UK?) meaning from Ferris is more amusing. In escalating levels of seriousness, I'd say US usage is:
Asked to leave
Shown the door
Escorted out
Ejected
(If you're "escorted out" that doesn't mean you're being taken on a date.)
