An AI with a physical body, complex personality and based on your preferences.

People would connect with a robot? Is that even a thing? I don't do science fiction and I don't follow tech. Are robots evolved enough that they can pass as people? 8O

Not yet.

But it’s getting closer and closer.

Think about Rosie on the Jetsons.

Some people pay big bucks for sex robots. I think I read an article recently about a guy who was trying to get his sex robot to emotionally connect with them somehow... Most people crave companionship and social bonding in a romantic context so I can see how that would help people who struggle with that.

I'm not judging! Each to their own! I'm just really surprised! I'm so behind the times with technology!

Err...rather than "The Jetsons", my mind goes to something more contemporary and...well, HUMAN-looking, like the androids in "Blade Runner" or "Star Trek" or "Detroit: Become Human".

In fictional instances like those, I think I would be very comfortable forming an emotional relationship with an AI. In something like "Detroit: Become Human", it was easy for me to form an emotional bond with the characters portrayed - largely because that's what dramatic fiction is intended to do, but because I saw a lot of behavioral traits I recognized as my own. If we had humanoid androids like that in real life, I could form an emotional connection with one.

I don't know about a sexual connection, though...although I'd certainly be a lot less self-conscious.

I don't think realistic robots with AI are that far away, and they are now growing all sorts of things in labs out of stem cells.

I think that some of the future AI's may even be implanted in artificial human flesh and bone.
Which would be even more interesting.

Imagine. a partner that you can order over the internet and control using your iphone.
Not really sure if the world really needs this though, as population is growing rapidly as it is.
Global Warming, Ozone erosion etc.

Not sure what is next. I guess some of us won't live to see such things. As the world is going,
i think that perhaps that is a good thing.

Emotionally, no. You can't connect emotionally with something that has no emotions.

Sexually? It certainly isn't my preference but my preferences don't seem to matter in this area, so if things continue as they are and I can't get with a real woman, maybe I'll be depressed and lonely enough to where buying one doesn't seem like a horrible idea.

That's demonstrably false. People form emotional and sentimental attachments to inanimate objects throughout their entire lives. You never had an intense attachment to a stuffed animal when you were a child?

Obviously you can form attachments to inanimate objects, but as far as I'm concerned, "connect with" implies something that is reciprocal.
