Dear women: how have you done it, or how would you do it?

Dear men: what would you think if your gf asked you? (Assuming she bought and presented the ring and/or sword herself)

This is just a feeler.... I'm not saying I'm thinking of doing anything stupid

^ Well now I know I should've done it with a sword (if he hadn't done the proposing) :P .

But without this insight, I probably would've stressed over it and come up with a bunch of crazy options and then been super anxious that I didn't go with the right one  . I don't envy the kind of pressure put on guys to get the 'right' ring!

Not that I have a lot of experience in this area. I only proposed marriage to a girl once in my life. I had to use an English/Polish translations dictionary to propose. This is because we did not speak a common language. She didn't accept on the spot. She said I must first ask her parents for permission. This I did the next day. Everyone was on the floor laughing when I asked her parents. Somehow I do not think the dictionary was a good translator. After that she accepted. We then married and have been married for 46 years.

As far as I remember my Mum proposed to my Dad. He said yes.

Is it a particular valentine's Day or a leap year day that women traditionally propose to men? It was on one of those things.

She learned English in about 2 years. Now she is like a native.

I do not excel in foreign languages. It is one of my worst subject. But living overseas for a few weeks, I found that it was not too difficult to communicate. The girl and I developed our own language. It was composed of a few English, French, Russian, Polish words, some sounds and sign language. It was almost magical how two people when they really want to communicate will evolve a unique language.

But was it a *good* 46 years.
People never qualify statements like that. :chin:

Being in gaol for 46 years is a great commitment, but I wouldn't recommend it. ;)

I wouldn't use the word "good". I would use the word "great" to describe the 46 years. Some people use the word soul-mate. That comes very close.

By the way the KISS principle is an abbreviation for "Keep it Simple, Stupid".

I definitely sympathize with the stress that men go through! I'm not sure if I could go through it without puking or crying or something

Hurt, I didn't know there was a traditional day :?:
