I've heard enough about men's voices' effects on women to want to ask. I have a deep voice; when singing, I'm a bass. But often, I wish it wasn't quite so deep, because it's easily covered by background noise, so that I often have to repeat myself in public. My dad had basically my same voice, except he also smoked for 20 years, so it was a bit gravelly. I've heard that's often appreciated among women.

Absolutely.

A great voice overrules almost anything else, at least as far as initial attraction goes. Think Patrick Stewart, George Takei (yes, I know he's gay - but he still has a fabulous voice), Sean Connery, or Alan Rickman for examples (if you watch tv or movies, that is).

A little bit gravely is good, but it becomes too much quickly (one should still be able to hear the tone through the gravelyness).

To the right person, your voice is like a dreamy song. Anything from a soft groan to a hearty discussion to a laugh. Mmmmm...

Being a guy I really couldn't speak on what turns me on in guys voices but I at least get the concept of how voices can work in general. Its like music, certain frequencies and textures can trigger certain brainwaves. Talking to friends who have deep and steady voices, I feel like they're calm and collected and I feel the same just listening to them. When I'm talking to someone who seems high strung or up-tight I can sense that too and while so much of that is nonverbal a lot of that as well transfers through not only voice but someones choice of nuance and how they use it.

For me such reactions would be determined not by the qualities of a particular voice, but whether or not it's coming from someone I like.

When I first met KJ I thought he was hot, like a few of the other guys, but as soon as I heard his voice and looked in his eyes I was done for.

He has a awesome voice.

I cannot stand talking to people who have a voice I do not like. There isn't a specific tone I like or dislike but some voices just hurt my brain. I have dropped classes I absolutely needed to take because of a professor with an unpleasant voice.

I couldn't be with someone whose voice I didn't find sexy. Sometimes when my man talks, I tune out and just feel the sexiness of his voice. He doesn't hold it against me, but I always feel bad for making him repeat things. I guess NTs think there is something romantic (whatever that means) about it...

Men with Cockney accents turn my knees to jelly.

Deep voices in men are something I find attractive. Higher pitched voices are okay too but I really dislike the harsh-sounding male voices in TV ads where they shout at you. I also find certain types of women's voices unattractive, especially when they are loud and nasal sounding and/or shrill.

Agree with you about the various voice dislikes.

Sometimes I'll use my deep voice to calm myself down during stress, by slowly humming a song I know in the lowest register I can reach. Those low-frequency waves have a stabilizing effect on the brain -- that should be looked into, reseach-wise.

Pandora, your tastes are so... normal. Where are all the single girls like you? I must live in freak city or something. So much plastic surgery, and people waxing this and that part of their bodies, getting botox injections -- I hate all of it; I'm completely natural in every way. Where are the girls who appreciate that?

Humboldt County, California.
Eugene, Oregon.

'Course, those are also the women into women's lib and paganism, buddhism, new age, or revisionist xianity (the gospel of Mary Magdaline and all). Very liberal areas.

Ya, ya. I'd prefer my wife join me in the next life. It'd be impolite for her to ditch me just for the Hell of it.

A co-worker of my wife's moved from Texas to
Buffalo, where he complained that all the women
were 'crunchy'. By which, it was revealed, he meant
natural - like granola. Anyhow, I'd say that in most of the
North east, and certainly here in Oregon as well, women
are women, not Barbie dolls.
