My family's watching one right now so I retreated back to my computer. I can't stand those kinds of movies. They make love seem like this amazing thing that makes everything okay. It doesn't. Partners have cheated, lied, abused, and have made my life hell. And to those that say, "Oh you just haven't found the right one yet" just put a pipe in it. Obviously if I were good enough, would anyone have treated me that way? Of course not. Pretty girls are put on pedestals and girls like me are run into the ground. So yeah, that's why I hate romantic comedies. That, and they're just not that funny. Anyone else agree? :/

I like romance. And I like comedies. However, I've never seen a romantic comedy that I found either romantic OR funny.

Same. I have to be in the right mood for a romance though. Obviously, I'm not in one right now. :/

Watch The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Its a great film. Not always ha-ha funny, but a movie that someone with AS can identify with. Both characters are chronically used and abused by the people around them, and end up together accidentally because of it. I'd call it more bittersweet than funny, but its been one of my all-time favorites for many years.

@Willard - I checked out the premise on the internet movie database and I'm not sure if I could take it. It sounds like it would frighten me in spots. Besides, I would have to wait until I'm at school because mother won't watch any movie that was made before she was born. :(

@OneStepBeyond - I don't. It makes it seem like the movie's lying to me. Granted I used be used to everyone lying to me but that's beside the point. As a writer, it really bothers me when everything seems coincidental or convenient. As in "the plot dictates that I end up at a cafe that I never went to before and fall instantly in love with a stranger." First off, it's very reckless behavior. The ditz could have been raped by the "charismatic stranger." D:

I don't like them either. For me, comedy movies have to be gross-out, or they're not very funny.

Sorry but I don't like gross-out either. >.<

I like witty dialogue with a hint of irony. Maybe some dark humor but it has to be played right.

There's a difference between fantasy and deception. Romantic comedies always make it seem that even the ugliest, most socially inept person can hook the hottie that understands him/her. Newsflash: that never/rarely happens. It's misleading and can get someone's hopes up. :/

A couple good romantic comedies...The Wedding Singer...but that also is because it's about the 80s...and While You Were Sleeping with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. Also My Big Fat Greek Wedding is good.

But for the most part, yeah, they suck.

I actually liked "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" moreso because it was focused more on comedy instead of romantic with interesting family interactions and such. At least I saw it that way. :)

Also, OP, the same thing happens to the so-called "pretty" women. Women often go for outgoing, social men...and with that comes the abuse, manipulation and so on.

I don't mind good romantic comedies. So long as they have good writing and characterisation, I can deal with the unrealisticness. There are a few rom-coms out there which are less unbelievable, or at least less fairytailish in their depictions of relationships. When Harry Met Sally and Definitely, Maybe are two good ones, in my opinion.

Just out of interest, what film were they watching, anyway?

So I should never talk to outgoing and social people? That leaves me with rapists and creeps. *sigh* Life would be SO much easier if I were a lesbian. Seriously, women hit on me more than guys do. Apparently I give off a lesbian vibe. I don't know why. I don't wear plaid shirts or mullets.

KaiG - Valentine's Day. I know nothing about it but that it was a recently-made romantic comedy and I wanted nothing to do with it.
