I'm disgusted by the things.
Except as jokes. But, if ever
intended as icebreakers, they
strike me as lame and dishonest.

Wanted to put a gay/straight mix in too,
but I don't really want to make it that
complex.

I'm not even talking just direct experience
(on either side) here. Rather just reading
them (or watching), I have this strong
revulsion. I'm not sure why, because some
are pretty honest - like, "hey, you're hot. I want
you." But they still make me queasy.

Maybe I just can't admit that I'm so shallow.
Or that others can be. So, it seems false.

well if someone came up to me
trying to pick me up-I'd be wondering who's pulling a prank on me
because I can't beleive that someone could want me

if they have a knowing cheese expression (they're joking) then MAYBE it could be pulled off

If a pick up line is original and funny... then I guess it's a sign of cleverness.

But something about the first interaction being a cheesy joke... doesn't really strike me as a solid foundation to start getting to know someone.

The most humorous ones though are the really bad ones that have no chance of working... especially if it establishes nerdery about the pursuer.

I'm contemplating posting the lyrics to Weird Al's Wanna B Ur Lovr, but it's just too easy.

Oh well here they are... http://www.com-www.com/weirdal/wannaburlovr.html

I prefer to be picked up with the timeless classic: "Can I grind your <bleep>?"

I've been hit on several times already by different girls that I would not have a chance with so I'm quite used to lame pick-up lines.

Anyone can be clever, if they plan in advance.

Pugly, I think that Weird Al song is hilarious! ROFL.

Well, a clever line should come from the situation at hand. A canned expression that you prepared weeks in advance... not so much.

I find them a complete turn off, but that may just be because of the kinds of pickup lines that have been used on me.

I think pick up lines hilarious. I can't take them seriously at all and I don't think that they should be taken seriously.

I think the concept of using them or not misses the big picture that
people infact do make a decision if they will mate with another using nonverbal communication rapidly. Any pickup line used by a person in a pair of people who have already non-verbally decided they are mating material will be effective. And no words under the sun will aid a person who is trying to pick up a person who has non-verbally rejected him.

The best you can do is show up looking your best and confident.
