What antidepression works better Works for Loneliness SSRIs or Trcyclic. Any comments.
I have tried quite a few different anti depressants, several different SSRIs and tricyclics, I'm not sure I could say which made me feel least lonely, though I would guess it would be those with the greatest serotonergic properties, as that is thought to be the most important neurotransmitter in terms of "contentness".
The biggest problem for me in selecting antidepressants has been in the benefit vs side effect equation.. unfortunately the stronger the antidepressant the stronger the side effects. Currently I'm taking 20mg Escitalopram with 75mg of Nortriptyline, I have found that combination to be quite helpful with an acceptable level of side effects. In my experience it can be quite difficult to get such a combination prescribed in the UK though, the ethos here is sometimes overly cautious, and dare I say it a bit ignorant in my experience.. almost in a NHS/knee jerk "oh we don't do things as haphazardly as the Americans" kinda way.
