The other day in one of my easy, goof-off classes someone brought in Guitar Hero 2.

Let's just say no one was expecting that quiet, nice girl in the corner (Me) to beat every one of them mercilessly. XD Priceless feeling right there.

So anyway, word spread and now alot of people at school know that I, pardon the expression, kick a$$ at Guitar Hero.
So the reason why I am telling this story is because it made me wonder...

Does it make a guy uncomfortable if a girl is better than he is at video games?

I can't speak for all guys, but I would personally think it was hot if a girl were really good at video games.

Depends on the guy...really depends on the person, sex doesn't matter...some people are just very poor losers.

Went on a date a long, loooong time ago with a guy I thought was very sweet...we went to a local tavern and decided to shoot a game of pool which I used to be pretty decent at...I'd been there before a couple of times, but never with my current date. The bartender seemed to not care for my date much...but acted like she knew him well, she pulled me to the side when we were playing pool and said "beat him". So out of curiosity I did. I've never seen anyone go from 0 to a$$*@le in 2 seconds...but I sure did that night.

I thanked the bartender and left.

But remember always be a gracious winner...it can work both ways.

Pretty cool BTW  ...did you play it alot before?

The only thing that might make me uncomfortable is not being able to beat the pants off of somebody at a game that I feel like I'm pretty good at.

But I think being able to play on equal footing (and I mean that in an egalitarian way, not to say that anybodies abilities are necessarily equal) is enough to assuage any discomfort. I mean, how could I be uncomfortable when I'm having fun and rocking out?

Though I know some guys will be intimidated any time a girl can show them up. You don't want those guys anyway. Laugh at their inability to accept their loss and keep going.

Guitar Hero? No.

Halo? Yes.

I get my ass kicked whenever I play a few of my female friends in Halo 1, 2, or 3. it's not pleasant.

at all.

I'm still getting used to the fact that there are females out there who like the Halo series.

Depends on the type of game, but in general, no.

I am hardly competitive in any way, so I have no problem being beat by a girl.

It's pretty neat to see a girl who is really passionate about a video game or something, especially games since we would have something to enjoy together.

One thing though, if someone is good at something but is really pompous and arrogant... I really hate that. By default they go around saying they are the best at something... I just ignore those people.

That's what I figured, we'd have something in common, but none of the guys really talk with me about video games when I bring them up.
It's weird, I'm talking to them about something random (math quiz, teacher's sweater, TV show, movie etc...) and when the topic switches to a videogame I know we both like, it almost seems like he is avoiding it.
But they are perfectly willing to have a 15 minute discussion with me about something girly like shows like America's Next Top Model.
Is it because they think that video games should be a guy intrest? Or because they are infront of their friends or what?

Do they know you're interested? I personally wouldn't bring up a subject with strong male connotations to a woman. I bet most guys intrinsically believe that girls would not be interested in a subject such as video games.

Back to the OP, it wouldn't bother me too much. It would, however, make me uncomfortable if a girl was better than me at some physical sport/game.

Heh, I knew a girl in high school that was both better than me at physical sport and better than me at computer games (our shared interest was UFO: Enemy Unknown.) Of course, I was pretty clumsy, though I am better now. And she had played it longer than I had. Of course, by the end I would play the economic screen (which she hated) and she would play the tactical screen (which I had no patience for.)

Anyhow, she was such a geek. And a "popular girl" at the same time.

Though I should be thankful. I'm pretty sure she is the reason I didn't get beaten up more in high school. Now if THAT doesn't sound emasculating I don't know what would :)

But I didn't mind. Pity she always had some boyfriend or other. Or I might be able to claim I've had a girlfriend.

I've seen two possible outcomes for it, though there are likely more.

I have seen guys practically worship girls for being good (and specifically better than them) at video games, but I've also seen guys get rather upset (if not furious) if they are beaten by said girls. Of course if a guy isn't all that interested in video games, he might not have an opinion on it... but he might not be in a position to lose in the first place, if he doesn't even play.

Seconded... a girl that likes video games is a rare treat. However, most of the games I'm good at are all single-player (Tetris, TES4: Oblivion, etc...), so I still end up playing alone (although most tetris engines have a 2-player mode, and oblivion is actually fun when two people are playing...)

Regardless, it DOES provide a topic for discussion, thereby allowing me to date women and actually carry a conversation (theoretically anyway, since I've never dated a woman)...

The only downside is that girl gamers are usually even more weird than the guy gamers, but hey, I thrive on weird, so it should work well for me...
