Seeing as though guys my age avoid me in real life, I have turned to the internet for relationships. I'm only 16, and this is quite dangerous. But, I know my online boyfriend is genuine. I know what he looks like - he sent me photos via Yahoo! Instant Messenger. And he knows what I look like. We met each other here, on WP. He lives in the US, and I live in Australia. And no, I haven't given out personal details like my address. I'm still new to the internet, and I'm still learning what is bad and what is good.

WP, what's your opinion on the matter?

No, I think you're doing the right thing.

If you don't feel comfortable with interacting IRL, or you are actively seeking out a specific type of person (or trying to filter out those you don't want), then you made the right choice.

I'd be very paranoid if I was a girl and doing the online relationship thing.

I personally don't like online relationships, since my personality and the best things about myself... I don't think come forward in the online space. But I'm not opposed to it, I just would rather talk on the phone and meet in person.

If you are good for each other, and make each other happy... have fun... and all that good stuff... well go with it. As long as you are playing it safe, it'll never be a bad idea.

Teh interwebs are filled with pirates and ninjas... so I'd be careful out there. But you're a paladin... you'll glow in the darkness...

online relationship is always a bad idea...

-people can put up false fronts on the internet... look at how easy "To Catch A Predator" does it...

-any prospective partner is probably going to be more than 100 miles away (unless you live near a major city), so unless you or he/she are willing to relocate, you're stuck with long-distance relationships...

-You don't get to know him/her before you start dating aside from what is written on the profile, and again it my be a false front (although that's one of my personal pet peeves apparently, you may not care so much about this...)

He said he'll come to Australia some day. 'Cause I don't think mum will ever let me move to the US...

i view online relationships in this way

*hug* is alot different then actually feeling the warmth of a hug, and many other things, online relationships just=lame in my eyes

but not to say what you're doing is wrong, if it makes you happy i mean it makes you happy

Boh, get your parents to download it. I used this to talk with my friend in Hawaii... it's pretty easy to use. Tell them it'll save them money... :D
