We guys often hear this reassuring myth that there are "more women than men." However, that is only true if you include everyone over the age of 50.

Lately I have been reading the statistics at the US Census Bureau's website (which is the most accurate source for US data on this topic). People ages 18-24 are around 52.26% male (2006 figures). In addition, people ages 15-17 are 51.72% male. There are more younger men than there are younger women.

If you are a single guy, this is part of the reason why. There are simply too many of us. :x

I seriously thought it was more women than men, because everywhere I look there is woman, women and more woman. Yes, usualy there are guys around, but far more women it seems. Youngsters, on the other hand, I havn't seen much of them because they are mostly off at school. :) BOYS YAY!

And everyone knows women over the age of 50 are just the walking dead, anyway, so why would they count as anyone important to men?

Interesting, where I live it is the exact opposite. I had suspected that the myth was wrong, but I simply had not found these statistics until yesterday.

The point is that there are not enough young women for all of the young men, which is one reason why more young men are single.

BTW, if you were suggesting that young men should consider dating old women, I completely oppose that idea. I consider that to be an extreme form of perversion, actually. My view is that the female in the relationship should be around one to five years younger than the male, and never older.

It might be true at a global level that there are move women than men.

If I remember correctly...

Under stressful circumstances (e.g. famines, droughts) there are slightly more women than men. When resources are abundant, one the other hand, its the other way around.

It depends on the species but males can potentially have several offspring at a time (all those females they impregnate) while females can only have what a female can normally have. The downside with males is that not all get to leave offspring (due to competition and other things). Females don't have to compete as much. Therefore it is riskier to have males. Evolutionarily speaking, it is best to take risks when things look good than otherwise.

Humans are relatively monogamous so this male/female skewing is not as pronounced.

Therefore, in resource-abundant America it should be little surprise that males outnumber females slightly. I bet in Bangladesh it'd be the other way around.

Since most of the world consists of developing nations and only a few are developed, it might be true that there are more women than men in the world.

I am not an expert so I could be completely off. I still think I make sense.

As time progresses, you might find yourself re-evaluating you ideas. Especially if you have a hard time getting women.

I am certain what ever powers that you revere consider you to be their spokesperson, and you are well qualified to dictate terms of behaviour to others on pain of harming their eternal soul.
Good luck with that.

No, I'm not desperate for a relationship. I would definitely rather be single than be in a relationship with someone who is older than me (or overweight).

I simply found this data to be an informative explanation for why some men (especially men with AS) have a hard time finding single women.

Actually, I'm an atheist. However, believers in three Abrahamic religions might want to consider the fact that, according to the story, Eve was younger than Adam.

If you are an atheist, why would you care what dead old men have decreed? I see you have expanded from women over 50 to overweight women, too. How charming you are turning out to be. How can the women you meet resist you?

I second her opinion.

quite, you're probably pretty young. I thought just like you when I was a teenager and into my early 20s.

I still prefer younger, thin women. Than never goes away. But as you get older, other things start to increase in importance. Frankly, if I'm with someone who loves me, I'll be happy.

(...wow...I never use the word "love"...maybe my plasma testosterone levels are dropping.)

Me neither! Tell me though.... My boyfriend and I are from the same graduating class... but I was born in February, and he was born in August. As of right now, I AM older than him....but could I possibly get off with a lesser sentence?

there's a 3:1 or 5:1 girl:guy ratio at my university (think it's 5:1 but i'll be conservative at 3:1). sadly there's a 5:1 guy:girl ratio in engineering (i measured 8:1 in my physics class)

I do not consider that small of an age difference to be perversion. When I say perversion, I mean what is sometimes called "intergenerational relationships" (i.e. more than just several months or years difference in age).
