and so I decided to view the full music video to see what it was all about...

all I have to say is this: 80's pop love songs were so much better than their 21st century counterparts...

It is a pointless prank when the music is too great. I don't understand why it should be used as a prank.

This is the kind of music I crank up on the radio. I've never figured out how this became a prank to begin with. There's much more traumatizing music you could trick someone into clicking on.

I just found a Mario Paint version of the song. Awesome.

I think... people think that Rick look gay. They used Rick as a AHHH Rick ... that is gay.

That the only logical explanation of why there is a Rick Roll.

no it's an internet prank...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rickroll

The thing is, the video in and of itself (outside of the prank) is better than people give it credit for (since people are so annoyed that they just got pranked, they negatively attribute that ot the video itself). That's what my argument is...

They don't make any good music videos anymore, the 80's
were a great era of music expression, MTV and Much Music
play nothing but crap, opp's I meant rap and brain dead pop
princess garbage, who sold out to corporate interests.
The music video is dead.

I hate 80's pop songs. I prefer different videos, like this one for Bush's "Greedy Fly," directed by David Fincher. (He's that guy who directed "Fight Club," "Se7en," and "Zodiac.")

The point of it being a prank is that it's so painfully awkward to the modern music fan. I mean, for some of you guys, it's clear that it's your taste in music, but for the broad spectrum of society, it kind of feels old fashioned and mildly obsolete in a way.

That Hasslehoff video is awesome!

Seriously though, playing music from the 80's may be old-fashioned, but it's hardly awkward. A good video prank should trick people into seeing something that may scar them for life, not something that has a 50/50 chance of making them dance in their chair.

Incidentally, click here to see a video I just found of Hillary Clinton getting a pie in the face.

I know far too few people who would choose to dance in their chair from seeing something from the 80s. It's more like 9/10 will not choose to dance in their chair.

Actually, most people that I know would find the song to be extremely awkward. The whole song is cliche'd.

Though there is most certainly a market for gore links, I will give you that.
