If you think about it, much of what people do is guided directly or indirectly by a drive to attract a mate. A person who is accomplished in some way is more desirable than someone who is not, and this competition can drive the will to advance technology, create music and art, and to organize larger social structures. This is why a failure to attract a mate usually leads to depression and lack of motivation. This may also be why people with higher sex drives tend to be more successful (e.g., as inventors, artists, politicians); the two drives go hand in hand.

Love in all its forms is as essential as the ability to oxygenate our blood.

Love is one of the universal constants of the human condition.

there are those who would answer "What progress?"

and those who would say yes.

There was an article (in Time magazine) a few weeks back about this. You could do a search.

Well I know this... If it hadn't been for "love," there wouldn't be so much crappy music.

Had it not been for love and your fruitless, desperate pursuit of it and your own insecurity of said failures, that you need to post stuff like this to make yourself feel better.

Analyzing stuff is not an effective way of dealing with it....

If you understood what love is, you'd agree that it is totally necessary for human survival. Anyone with emotional reciprocity issues may not be qualified to answer this question.

I know what you're saying, I agree, but I like to mess with people sometimes.

Humans like feeling accepted, appreciated, and praised.

Really though, I can get praise by mowing the lawn.
I can get acceptance and appreciation by doing a good job.
Does that mean I should invent the next big technology? Not at all.
I don't need to be an inventor to get that stuff, and either does anyone else.
Bill Gates didn't invent Microsoft so that he could find a women to have sex with. He invented it because it had $ potential.

So, if sex drive = innovation then that by default means that those with low sex drives aren't motivated at all and will never be inventors. I find the connection hard to establish.

Sex and Companionship are big motivators, but so is money.
Consider this:
People had companionship long before there was a monetary system.
What drove the improvement for having a monetary system put into place? (It definitely wasn't the aspiration to acquire a mate because they already had a system for that)
