So I'm talking to my BF and I am like ok I might have something called asperges and he asks what that is and I say a form of autism. I was expecting to get dumped well I didn't get dumped instead he told me two of his brothers have autism. I was amazed I never thought I with someone who could even start to understand me, but he understands me in ways others cannot. I feel so good I found a mate both worthy of my love and worth of my respect.

that's shocking??

Phili, I dated a girl my freshman year of college who had aspergers, and I didn't even know until two weeks in when she told me. Nonetheless, it was surprising, but the fact that I didn't have to hide that secret from her, after she told me.

as is well, there are more men then women out there who have it, and to have dated a girl who had it, was interesting as well.

But anyhow, that's good news. good luck.

Shock of the century? If you're talking about last century, I'd say Germany invading Poland in 1939 would be the shock of the century. For this century, so far it's 9/11.

The number of people being diagnosed with autism is increasing. As a result, more and more people are beginning to understand it, which is a good thing.

we know that Phili.

we're quite happy for you. and I think Cyberman is......I think.

Cyberman.

Does it really matter? it's like Bartlett and his MS. everyone soon forgot about that as soon as he was reelected.(West Wing reference) The fact that her boyfriend's brothers ave Autism, is a sure sign that he understands and that he stands by her.

Woo-hoooooo!

Why did you think he'd dump you? (Also, why hadn't the topic of his brothers come up before then?)

It's true that more men are diagnosed. Are there solid arguments for fewer women actually having it?

I believe that many women with ASD get other diagnoses slapped on them, just as adults' appendicitis is often presumed to be food poisoning. Bad analogy considering the very different time scales.

I thought he would dump me because I thought he would get scared. Even though awareness is growing still many people only see autism as a condition that makes you stupid.

I talked to my friend about my personal dealings with it..( I already knew has a ton of traits(seriously)...but was not gonna suggest to him that he has it)....and instead of poo-poohing the notion like most people......he said he thought he might!...and he said he had thought so when he'd heard about it on a local radio program :)
While he would not be one to get addicted to Aspie boards and whatnot....we do tend to bond over our social idiosyncracies.
I still feel self-conscious....when I lose my train of thought or go into repetative mode around him...or find it really hard to talk on the phone....it's hard for me to gauge, but I think he understands....I have been meaning to talk to him more about it....likesay...the reasons why I do certain things and whatnot...
