A Theory of why popular culture prefer stick thin tall woman
A Theory of why popular culture prefer stick thin tall woman.
You probably already know of eastern and indigenous cultures preferring a more fuller figure. Even in archaeologists dug up ancient figurines of fuller figure woman. This is enough proof already that a high proportion of men like fuller figure woman.
Back in ancient times, upto no less then 100 years ago, having a little fat( or a bit more) was a survival trait in time famine, or mild food shortage. However, this would not be not such an issue with the higher classes, who would not have such problem with food shortages or not being able to afford food. As a result woman of higher classes could afford to be fin and even develop tall.
Perhaps tall slim woman are a product of the higher classes and because most man like to be associated with higher classes they magnate towards slimmer woman and most modern woman try to lose weight. But men secretly love a more fuller figured woman.
The same pattern also seem to apply to a woman height also. Back in ancient times, it would require more food to feed a taller woman thus favouring shorter woman. However today we still know that man still favour shorter woman. Again this would not be a problem with higher classes so as a result higher class woman would end up being much taller. Even modelling agencies go for taller woman and will turn down shorter.
Could any biology/ evolutionary geeks verify the validity of what I have said.
It's an interesting theory. I can't comment on its validity because while I am attracted to taller girls naturally, they don't always have to be that thin. I was in a relationship with a girl that was 6'0" 190 lbs. Not for those reasons but because I like girls as close to my height as possible as a matter of comfort. It does adhere to past trends of people trying to gain access to higher levels of society, but in reverse gender roles. I also wonder how fast we can actually change our subconscious instinct. While it's obviously happened, I would think that something that has been cultivated over centuries would take longer to change due to short term current trends.

Its a iteresting thing you bring up, i cant belive
how thin some of these woman in commercials
and such are, its very sad - i read about 14 year
olds starving themselves because of this
its terrible. One terrible example would have to
bee this Vicoria Becham person, not talking bad
about her, but she doens`t look healthy too me,
and she is one of these "ikons" some young
people look up to so its a viccous circle
That's more of an cultural or anthropological matter, than biology/evolution, since this thin women fashion isn't old enough to have influenced evolutionary patterns.
I think the common belief is, that advertisement in magazines, tv and so on influences our picture of how a "perfect" woman should look like. This picture is developed during the teenager period of live.
But there are other factors as well, for example tall women with long legs would make good runners and so good hunters. A reason, why some seem to prefer them.
So I see there more a contest between good breeders and good hunters/fighters than upper/lower class.
(Though the hunters/fighters would more likely to be upper class)

I like taller women cause I don't have to bend over and break my back to give her a hug or a kiss. My ex was 5'10, and I don't know what she weighed (I never asked, I have more sense than that) I would guess 125 or something. She was a b***h though, omg.

lol anorexia is but uggly the problem with women is that they think that the smaller they are the bether they look
but for all the girls who are unsure ITS NOT TRUE ofc if your really overweight you would deffenetly see it btw mirrow is decieving
it always make you look worse than you are you should look at a picture to know how you look or a video
^True if only it were that simple. I've often wondered myself why females for over thousands of years easily fall under the guise of what is considered beautiful in a civilized culture, take footbinding in ancient China for instance...OUCH. I think too females tend to internalize pain when distressed or unhappy while males externalize it.
But it could be a malfunction in the brain like Body Dysmorphic Disorder which isn't that uncommon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_dysmorphic_disorder

how could you call it a malfunction its nothing more then pure pressure and expecialy the most important thing: TV
theres no such thing as "seducing" thats also something of the media seducing only would end up getting some guy turnd on and can end up in a rape -_-
but i can't know what its like to be a women so who am i to judge
Au contraire; nature seeds sociaty and culture. Sociaty cannot take away biological urges. Example, our love of fast food hasn’t came society, it comes through gene from our ancestors who need the high energy/celeries to survive starvation. And woman still prefer musclely men with six pack not because of society media, but because woman from had a better chance of survival with a strong muscle.
Understanding why tall thin woman are popular in media harder to understand, so I gave my explanation.
THE AVERAGE WOMAN WOULD LIKE A TASTE OF BOTH OF THESE THINGS

Unsure if men, overall, truly prefer tall/skinny women. This is a given: Men have evolved to look for female who would be the best mating potential for optimal offspring. They do look for such traits as Health (as shown by physicality), direct quote here, from various literature, "Lively gait, or even walking gait," fit, nice posture, groomed well, etc.
I am 'normal' in size. Except I'm only 5'3" but my figure is normal/fine. I am not tall/skinny. I do understand men do not usually like heavy females since this connotes ill-health, they may not take good of themselves, or just look, well, sloppy. Fat is not attractive and means she's not physically fit (might even be construed as lazy). True, I understand men might like a curvy or voluptous female - that's normal! But that's NOT fat. Also, men do like breasts. Usually rail-skinny women have small breasts - not what men want, in general. Just by evolution, men do look for breasts that are full - to nourish future offspring, in theory. I honestly don't know a normal male that doesn't like breasts.
I am considered pretty/attractive. But I don't think I would choose to be rail-skinny and tall. Even if I tried I couldn't achieve this - not my genetics. I am active (on the hyper-active side) with a lot of nervous energy. I guess that counts as exercise.
I'm certain many males will disagree with what I've just stated - I understand and there is much variability. I am heterosexual and I really like men who strong and safe - I do have a 'daddy' type I like, admittedly. I like security. In actuality, the male featured above is not my type. He's cute, but just not my choice.
About supermodels: In truth, the REASON they were originally chosen to be skinny is because model was to advertise the CLOTHES - not to be distracted by her body or curves. But this has become a cultural ideal - not really the intent. A model is basically supposed to be a clothes hanger - not a sex object.

Isn't it odd that females will torture themsevles for a certain cultural look? That's a good point MissConstrue.
Another phenomena which is just weird: Females who dye their hair a color that is completely NOT condusive to what is natural to them. For the most part, a shade or two is ok. But most females with, say, naturally black hair (and the complexion to match) don't look 'right' when they bleach their hair platinum blonde.

Not completely sure. I am attracted to skinny hipped model types to. There appears to be no evolutionary advantage of skinny girls. If an ancient society had lots of skinny hipped woman, that society has developed wealth and is less reliant of the a gene that holds fat for food shortages. That society would be desirable, and their woman also because they are a product of a strong society that does not run out of food.

I can understand this.....we do, though, live in a Western culture where resources are plentiful. Again, more of a personal choice issue.
Oh wait! We're forgetting a major factor: Personality. If she (or he) is just a yucky person, they're out. Regardless of what they look like, I think we all want someone interesting with personality (ie: I like educated intelligent older men).
That being said, I sometimes feel sad for individuals who are obese. Just not healthy. Some may have an underlying health condition. But I do wonder...do they just not care? Often really heavy people are very sedentary - to me, that's unattractive. I like someone with motive that's willing to go outside and play. Don't like 'stay at home just to watch TV types!! !!'
I've read: TV lifestyle + sugary soft drinks & fast food = Obesity. For me, I wouldn't care to be around this sort of individual anyway.

You're funny!

In a strictly 'I'm ok you're ok' way.
<yes, I'm kidding - no problem with your preference>
