I'm teamed up with this super-elegant tall gal in my tech writing class. (She's thin, and has short hair, a wide face, and a slender neck. aaawwwhaha *swooon*) I have to complete a writing assignment with her over the weekend, AND I want to invite her to come with me to a party late Saturday night. Should I:

A: Ask her Thursday in class.
B: Ask her Friday in class.
C: Call her and ask her. (so I don't have to ask her in front of the class)
D: Arrange to finish the project Saturday afternoon, and once it's done, THEN ask her.
E: Secretly finish the project on my own, then arrange to meet with her just before the party, then drive her to the party as a surprise. (possibly creepy)

I'm open to other creative suggestions too.

mm some people like advance notice, some people are more spontaneous.

i think i'd go for A, as she may have other plans.

I say A2 - ask after class on Thursday - or C (and call tomorrow). Timing is important, as is scheduling. D & E are not good solutions, in my opinion.

Ask on Thursday after class, just ask her to wait a minute and you shouldn't have to do it in front of everyone.

Holy Firecrackers!
I just called her a moment ago and asked her, and she said YES! 8O
It caught me so much by surprise that I couldn't think of what to say next. I ending choppy and stuttering, but I got the result I wanted. :D
I'm glad I didn't wait.

Nuggarts. She called an hour ago and said she couldn't make it :( (And I had spent half an hour cleaning inside my junky car, just to make a good impression). She said she had too much class work, but twice in the call she told me to call her for the next party.
I wonder if inviting her to a Valentines-Day-dinner would count as "the next party".
I guess I'll have to attend the party this weekend alone.

That means she may genuinely have had too much work, rather than just making an excuse not to go, in case you were considering that. I wouldn't suggest arranging something as strong as a "Valentine's day dinner".

I can't tell if it's that or if she's just over-worried about classes. When I saw her in class this morning she was still willing to go.

Do you think it would be rude to send an email saying "Give me a call if you change your mind."?

mm sounds ok, or a text giving her the address?

very hard to know what to do, it's just a website after all. you might have to use your own judgement.

That party last night got CRAZY! 8O
Ironically, it's probably better that she didn't come.
She doesn't drink, doesn't like huge crowds, and doesn't trust people neither she nor I know. This party had all of those things, plus excessive noise, people stumbling over eachother, and even a spontaneous fight with at least 5 participants (which I kept out of). In other words, my kind of party :P . (The dancing was fun too.)
If I had convinced her to go, she would've been disappointed, and I probably would've lost her trust.

Besides that, I remembered that next week is midterms for her, so of course she would need that time to study. She wasn't making excuses.

Hopefully I can find something she'd enjoy next weekend.

In any case, thanks for the advice in general. I'll stop yacking to myself now.
