I wasn't sure where else to put this. In an online chat where my wife was flirting with this guy, she and he kept referring to me as "whiteboy". Does that seem highly offensive to anybody, or just me?

"Whiteboy" is like the n-word for white people, except it's creation was actually racially motivated. I've found that it is mainly used by white women that exclusively date black men.

It was intentionally offensive. I wouldn't know or care about the specific details.

Hmmm... I thought "cracker" was the equivalent.

I think I'd be more offended by my wife flirting with someone else online than the nickname she used to describe me.

Yes, of course. But that is something that would upset anybody and is not in dispute. The whiteboy thing appears to be a gross double standard (a pet peeve of mine) and that is why I ask.

I don't know the whole story to this or in what context they used it in.

I'm so use to being called all kinds of names even offensive ones in a seemingly joking way...so I don't know.

I'd say it's offensive no matter the context.

if someone called me white after seeing me dance or hearing me rap I wouldn't get offended- I'm too aware of how stupid I'd look/sound =p

but in any other context, yeah, big time.

I would be less offended. It is still being used in a derogatory sense and they are implying that your skill in those areas is based on your color. And, once again, the double standard comes along: If somebody told you that you talk black, that person would probably get his ass kicked.

So I think you answered your own question.

Yes it was offensive. I'd move on unless they start harassing you. If they do, keep a track record of what they say and be sure to save any text or recorded messages if it doesn't stop.

I only say context because I'm so use to getting offended by names that even ones that're jokinly said to me come off offensive. But sometimes people have different meanings behind them.....I guess....
