Since I can't succeed with dating right now should I just wait a few years and try online dating?

You're only 16 - just keep trying.
it doesn't just happen overnight.

What em said. I know at 16, I didn't have any real dates. Even when I had a boyfriend/girlfriend, it wasn't serious.

If you don't want to date right now, then don't. Don't make excuses about how successful you are/aren't.

I've been trying for the past 5 years. And I really do want a girlfriend.

The past five years and you're only 16? Dating when you're 11 is totally not the same thing that real dating is gonna be when you're an adult. I understand wanting a gf at 16, but forget about the "been trying for 5 years thing" because any "dating" you did when you were eleven is irrelevant

Go out with friends, have a laugh, go to school, play video games or whatever else you're into. Half the world are women so you'll meet plenty along the way. Maybe it'll work out with one of them. There's no need to rush though. At all. If in a couple years you still don't have a gf then sure, try online dating.
