In my opinion it's harder to start conversations online. So I guess RL friends are easier for me.

Internet friends are easier. And usually I'm anonymous so it doesn't matter if I make an *** of myself. Here my identity is less closely guarded. I feel more and more like this is my community.

Real life friends.

My experiences with Internet 'friends' are such that there is no contest.

I can't make real life friends, so I have online ones instead.

I've never had a true real life friend, so I don't have anything to compare to.
So far, some of the internet friends I have made have been really nice to me, I have confided in some of them more than I have any person in real life...but yet, I still feel something is missing. No matter how good of a friend someone is to me online, I still am lonely.
This is ironic since being around people in real life is stressful for me...so really, I am stuck.

Real life friends would be better than online friends, but I just don't have that many.

well i've had a few close real life friends, but after high school they moved away and i stopped talking to them, and then i didn't know how to meet new people at college so i was basically alone. Online friends are easier for me, and I find that the relationship is truer since it's based entirely on conversation. I question how much my close real life friends really respected me...

internet friends are great and everything... but i would really like to have physical friends who i could let hug me tightly and lay on top of me and things haha... its not really a social aspect of physical friendship to me... more of a sensory aspect

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

yah that's true strapples i miss the physical side of having real life friends. having online friends makes me feel kinda crazy sometimes. It's like i'm living my life entirely in my head.

Hard question. I prefer real life friendships, but I am always disappointed at their lack of depth.

Internet friendships are deeper, more intellectual, more emotionally honest and intimate - but internet friends can't spend time with you. They can't come over and watch movies, they can't go to concerts, they can't laugh with you.

Real life friendships are more rewarding, but it seems you spend all your time waiting around for something to happen, or you spend a ton of time trying to get close to the person and failing. I think internet friendships are more rewarding that way because you spend all your time TALKING, and you get to the things that matter immediately. But I also think that it is very unhealthy to get fixated on people on the internet instead of making friends in person.

The whole thing just strikes me as really ironic and more than a little disappointing.

If I ever find a person in my daily life that I can make that kind of connection with, I'll be completely happy. Because now that I have had that kind of wonderful connection with people online, I've sort of developed higher expectations for what I want offline.

I had some good real life friends, but when one of then moved, I had no friends. Then again... These were school friends, not actual friendfriends. I still have no real life friends. I turned to the Internet for friendships.
