I think the best thing to do is put them in their place.

I was bullied when I was little, and just ignored it. Nothing happened.

But anyway, someone I know just about attacked someone with a knife (not that I reccomend this) but people left him alone.

Sometimes to fight back is the only answer.

And always remember, hold out. Once school is over, you can usually laugh at those people. :D

Nowadays it's pretty easy to carry a tiny audio recorder in your shirt pocket.

If you have one like that which you can leave in record mode when you are walking through the public areas where bullying takes place, you can routinely capture any remarks of a bullying nature.

Then, if and when someone bullies you, say nothing to egg them on. You can later play the audio back to a responsible adult (e.g. parent, guidance counselor) and ask them to help resolve the situation.

I was bullied really badly up to 6, to the extent that my family had to move to a different part of town to avoid it. Luckily, after that I was never really bullied per se (I've always been a rather large gentleman which might have had something to with it :)), at least not in the physical sense.... I was obviously ostracised a lot though, which I think is much worse....
