I'm just wondering if anyone has a similar experience as to this. I seem to find myself in this situation more than enough times than I'd like.

You walk into a mall, or some store, usually a crowded one. You find yourself walking forward, but then there's one or two people walking forward towards you. Your first instinct is not to crash, so you start walking to one side. And then, the other one or two persons seem to get confused, and start walking towards you again. Then, you try to move away again. Usually, I don't run into anyone, but I get some pretty bizarre looks. It's really annoying. And now I find myself somewhat paranoid about this sort of thing, but then again ... I hate crowds. They disorient me.

My husband (NT) used to yell at me and tell me that when you are walking it is like driving and you are supposed to go to the right if someone is coming towards you (maybe it would be on the left for someone in the UK). I really don't know if that is true - maybe it is one of those unwritten codes or something. I'm left handed so even if that is some sort of "rule" I still forget and go to the left and still end up doing this confusing little step.

It happened to me today.

There I was walking along when I say an oldish man in the distance.

I move to the right - he moves to the right.

So I move to the left to avoid him and guess.... :x

Yes you got it. HE moved to the left aswell and almost bumped into me!!

Ok, this is what I do - and it works every time. :)
When people walk towards me and I can tell the "dance" is going to happen, I stand still. Just stand there and the person walking towards me has to walk around me. If you feel the need to be doing something to cover up just standing there, search through your wallet/bag, adjust your shirt, look in a window, something like that. Works every time for me.

I stand up straight, throw my shoulders back, tip my nose up,ever so slightly, and walk right straight ahead. Let them move out of MY way.

That happens to me quite often, too!

What I have to do is just be careful, and watch where I'm going.

I find it's only for a couple of seconds until the person walks past you. Then you just keep walking the way you were going. No harm done (except to the other person's ego, heheh).

This happens to me all the time too, is it a thing that's more likely to happen to Aspies?

Yes, it's like disco dancing. Quite weird.

It's something a co-worker picked up on when he observed me. Said I was very jittery, and caught in two minds when it comes to going past people. And that it was a sign I needed to be more positive in the way I do things. I think he was annoyed at this trait in me.

That happens to me all the time. I also HATE  when people sday excuse me when they mean GET THE HEL OUTTA MY WAY. when someone say excuse it means to me they want to come past but not instantly, its kidove like when you can move the please. by saying this i will move wheni can. but l;ots fo people get it confused with GET OTTA MY WAY, and they just barge through.

I find the dancetheing funny, i find if you just turn 360 and slide past people tend to not hit you.

I frequently bump into people (and things) because of walking too close to them.

I have overcome all problems like these. I keep a note of where I think other people will walk then alter my speed and direction to minimise the effect. But when I do cross with another person, I turn at least a 45 degree angle and literally walk around them. It makes it much less akward for them and much easier for me.

I do the same, but what do you do if they don't move out of the way?

I do it when I'm not watching where I'm going... like, when I'm in a place that has lots of things to catch my eyes. Such as, gadgets, shiny things, colored lights and neons, etc.
