i find that most people either find me weird , obnoxios, crazy, random, rude, loud, disturbed, too angry, or on the positive side people find me as a generous, kind, giving , talkative, interesting, unique, inspiring, helpfull, smart, funny, and a very happy person ... i think basically there are positive and negative opinions of me and it depends all on how you act around people

It is interesting because the answer I would have given to this question is almost the same as Staige's. I think people think I am weird (but is it really a bad opinion ?), crazy, sometimes unvolontarily impolite or rude, loud but they also think I am generous, helpful, smart and unique. Concerning "weird" and "helpful", I know for sure because they told me back in the nineth grade.
But I think they would answer better than me.

Weird (it's just the way I am)
Bossy (I don't know  )
Loud (it's just the way I am)
Stupid (I'm not, but sometimes I pretend to be as an attempt to be funny)
Crazy (it's just the way I am)
A ham (" ")
AMONG OTHERS

Many people who have gotten to see my abilities consider me as being extemely smart. Out of about 85 of some of the most science-intrested high schoolers in the nation (though most were from Florida) I was voted most intellectual by a lanslide vote. This was at a precollege program at the University of Florida that I participated in last summer. At the school that I graduated from, many of the students considered me to be the smartest one there and that the next year's senior class would not have anyone like me. During my junior and senior years, I earned six awards for academic excellence in core classes, more than anyone else in my grade. However, many others, including both teachers and students, focused more on my lack of social skills. I know this is true because I did not win any awards my senior year for being one of the best students, even though there were a number of them given and my graduating class had about 40 students, as I went to a private school that specialized in learning differences.

Most people see me as being "That Little Cockney over there!", because of my Accent and the fact that I usually wear a Newsboy Cap when I go to my Clubhouse or run some errands. I don't mind. I love the attention! :D

I think most neurotypicals see me as a nerd, moron, ret*d, lunatic, eccentric and a cretin. I do agree that it probably depends on how you act and behave around other people. :)

that depends on who you ask, most kids I grew up with would say that I was "weird" or "different". The psycologists who saw me all said I was a very bright person who had severe social, anger, and self-control problems and that I need to be put into a remedial education program.

Twice I've had people tell me that I was "the stupidest person I've ever met!"

In September 1992, my language art's class had a career day where we had to stand infront of the class and tell everyone about our future ambitions. I was a weather junkie at the time and amid the stream of model wanna-be's, engineers, and professinal athletes. I told the class during my turn that I wanted to go into meterology and chase severe weather around for research purposes. The entire class laughed at me for about 5 minutes.

I've had rather few favorable opinions made about me.

What kind of opinion people have of me and why? That's a tough question. I don't think that I am very good at judging what others think. Maybe a couple of quotes will tell more (some filtered through memory)...

"He is ret*d, he won't manage in school" (kindergarten teachers)
"He is gifted" (psychologist whose job was to determine the validity of prior statement)
"Other kids are cruel to you because you are different" (mother)
"Don't be silly, you are no different from other people" (mother)
"You behave as if one area of your brain was grown out of proportions, and the rest squeezed and malfunctioning" (mother)
"Why are you so cold and won't let me hug you?" (mother)
"Everything just slids off you like water off a duck's back" (sister)
"You are smart" (many people)
"You are good" (boss)
"You are rather slow" (boss)
"I don't know why boss thinks you're slow, in my opinion you are fast" (close coworker)
"You have an ability to offend just everybody" (coworker)
"You are not popular among coworkers" (boss)
"Nobody wants to work with you" (boss)
"Why do you treat everybody as if they were worse than you?" (coworker)
"Why does everything have to be done your way?" (buddy)
"We once had an employee like him and the only solution was to fire him quickly" (manager who campaigned to fire me)
"You are as you are, but at least you smile" (the same person after his attempts were thwarted)
"I think that your idea to go back to school is a good one, universities are full of strange people, you will fit in there" (boss)
"At first I couldn't stand you, but now I know you better, and I discovered that you are different than you appear" (boss)

So, make your own opinion...

I'm not always sure what people are thinking of me (nor do I usually care), but I'll list some of the opinions of me that others have shared with me:

- "brainiac"
- "restless"
- "easily distracted"
- "dynamic"
- "a screw-up"
- "reserved"
- "aloof"
- "thinks too much"
- "shy"
- "interesting"
- "weird sense of humor"

I guess I've heard as many positive opinions as negative ones.

Oh my. So much of what you share here reeks of judgmental and discriminatory behavior. It is the almighty "AS IF" to say in what is sometimes called: "The Absent Minded Professor Syndrome", that you belong with your "own kind" in a University setting.

This appears to be a very troubling mindset indeed. I'm of the opinion one of a spectrumental persuasion would need a mentor, job coach, or translator, much like a person who speaks another language. It appears you might have been hindered in your work. In whereas your capabilities might have been in question and you could have been given only boring "busy work".

Sepia mentions something similar in her introduction here in where she doesn't feel she is being challanged at work. This can also be done in the classroom where a child is given only "busy work" that it is certain they can be "successful" at accomplishing. This under the guise of doing a child good by allowing them to experience success and accomplishment. Without being challenged, therefore avoiding the possibility of a "meltdown". Sort of like pacifying a person so as not to expend the energy and necessary accomodations needed for meaningful success.

OUCH!

Yes, my coworkers were often judgmental and quick to interpret everything against me. But the worst and most illogical thing one can do is to consider oneself infallible and to lay all blame on others. In many cases they were right. I am not the most likeable person, despite my efforts.

Not really. I worked as a software developer and I was sometimes given interesting projects, requiring a lot of thinking. (Very good job for a daydreamer, by the way. Sometimes I would spend whole day doing nothing but looking at the ceiling, to the delight of my boss: "Think, Magic, think!" :)) The problem was the scarcity of interesting projects, despite company choking from lack of proper software. There was a couple of programmers in the company, and we had to resort to all kinds of tricks to be allowed to do something. The management was busy with office politics and personal wars, and was unable to do any real work, except issuing orders such as "you are forbidden to start any unapproved work". :x

Ahhh yes... I can see how people wouldn't want to work with you (not offense meant by that, please read on). I too have had arguments and have almost come to blows with others over how to do stuff on the computer, most notably in senior high school in Drafting II class while working with vellum on the Macs in the drafting lab.

You have a very good attitude. That is the key in being, despite your efforts. :(

I'm afraid to share some of the toxic public implications of one with Asperger Syndrome, despite anyones efforts. For it simmers in failed relationships and doom.

Well, at the end the situation was such that I have managed to offend even those employees, with whom I have never exchanged even a single word. It was as if they were some anti-Magic virus in the building, airborne and very contagious.

But returning to software engineering, it is true that this is a very unstructured activity, in which good design is the most important piece of work. Unfortunately, my colleagues were not so keen on design. For example there was once a recurring problem that required 4 hours of work of one programmer each week. After thinking 1 (one) minute, I have found a solution that required 2 hours to implement, and solved the problem once and for all. The result: I was criticized for devaluing work of others that led to previous solution. So, no wonder that we were clashing frequently.

Another problem is that they were often taking my enthusiasm for aggresiveness and criticism. And many misunderstandings that I had were over such silly things that you would not believe me if I told you. They would be laughable if I didn't suffer from them.
