When I first got Facebook I found that I was getting adds from people who were complete b*****s to me at school, and suddenly they were sending message like "How are you getting on? Are you still living in the area? x" It all seemed very fake considering we were never even friends.
I got sick of it so deleted my account and started up a new one, but I do like Facebook for keeping in touch with friends and business contacts, and seeing what's going on in their lives can give me an idea what to say to them when I see them in person.

I have roughly 700 Facebook friends, mostly because of my over-the-top photo uploading and tagging habit (along with joining a coed fraternity in college, where everybody friended each other and some alumni). I uploaded several albums of high school pics, tagged my friends, and then got tag and friend requests from people who could care less about me (and a few former bullies). It was strange how the years could make mean people slightly more friendly.
Maybe those people that are asking about you have changed.
There was this guy in my high school that was kind of a bully to people. Not me though. He was on the message board at Classmates.com site and sincerely apologized to this girl he made fun of. This is a public forum he did this.
Maybe the bullies are just guilty about how they treated people.
