I'm a college student and there is a person with whom I'd like to grow closer in friendship with who recently started attending my college as well.

We first met each other in high school through short three day summer camps. We saw each other there and talked a little bit btu I didn't pay too much attention to them. Then we began exchanging some emails when he had a question about something.

We see each other around town and at school, but every time I try talking to him, we never seem to connnect. It seems awkward to me and awkward mostly on my part.

We have a few things in common, but they aren't really things that we can constantly talk about. Obviously, we can talk about how our life is going, but beyond that I don't know what to do to connect.

I see potential for our friendship to grow, but I having trouble actualizing that potential.

One: why are you 111 years old?

Two: Start by going on about your day and then maybe put emphasis on one detail and then lead that into a conversation about your interests, such as music or something. Keep doing that for a little bit then maybe arrange a plan to get coffee some time or another. If you are interested in similar bands, maybe look up where their concerts are. If you are interested in sports, see a game. If it's art, spend some time at a gallery.
