Hearing about Issaquah makes me think of the Krispe Kreme there. Good stuff.

I'm in Seattle. Ballard in fact. And you know, I've read the Scandinavians have higher rates of Asperger's, after all.

I was briefly signed up on meetup. None of the meetings caught my interest.

ok, if you don't mind, would you tell me what things were lacking that you wanted to see there? conversely, what things were there that you didn't like? just curious. :)

I was just looking for a place to hang out, and I was a little confused with the schedule and all the different types of meetings. None of the meetings looked like something I'd care to spend my time finding. As I recall it was all a bunch of discussion groups in places I had never heard of, nothing piqued my interest.

yes, there does seem to be quite a variety of aspie meetups up in king county. they have the large aspie population base and so they can be somewhat larger and more impersonal. if you are willing to travel about 3 hours south, to olympia, at evergreen community college, we have our bi-monthly aspie meetups the 1st and 3rd saturdays [next one is tomorrow, feb. 18th] at 1PM, in the lounge across from the cafeteria, if you are interested. our meetups are simpler, no subgroups or anything like that, just about 5 or 6 aspies at a round table, literally- a small enough group to where we can talk to each other and not break into cliques.

I'm actually working on that right now, I recently acquired the appropriate URLs and am building an off meetup.com hub for the SquarePegs meetings since we're growing so rapidly right now. It started with just the Seattle meetings, but little by little we're adding satellite groups and additional meetings with different focuses, and it is starting to clutter up the site, hence the pending migration.

The main Seattle meeting sounds the most like what you're looking for, it's not a discussion group, not a support group, more like a cocktail party where everyone just happens to be Aspies. Next one will be the second Saturday in March, the location is a rooftop cabana in Capitol Hill on the north end above I-5. The details are on the site if you want to check it out.

I've added the square pegs on my meet-up page, but haven't went yet. Looks like most of the meetups actually close enough for me to go to in town are held at a church.. I'm not really comfortable with churches. Also, these meetups seem like they'd be more "formal", or at least not as casual as the ones that I'm used to (with the Indianapolis Adults on the Spectrum)

I don't know if I'd describe any of the squarepegs meetings as formal, though some are more structured than others. The main Seattle meetup in Capitol Hill is really loose, a social event for Aspies rather than a support or discussion group, while the Olympia meetings are more discussion oriented, the south end is small and sort of group discussion focused, and the Wednesday discussions are very free form within the discussion format.

I'm more involved with the main Seattle meeting than any of the outliers, but I can tell you that the church setting is entirely incidental; the churches just happened to be the best (read cheapest) option for the satellite groups, as it's been notably difficult recruiting event leaders with available meeting spaces.
