Well if they are really smiling for no reason, I understand that. What I was talking about is, greet people with a smile and "how are you doing" and smile when people say something nice, funny, etc. You can see a huge change in how people act with you. It might make NTs sound like all they need is a smile to "like" you, but that is unfortunately the NT way.

I prefer just saying how are you doing, if they say something funny then I'll smile or laugh.
I think you need to get a feel for the place and some of the posters here mate, before you start making assumptions. I'm not here for advice, I deal with people all day.

Sometimes people look frightening when they smile. We had a running joke in my parents' house - when someone said "sorry" my dad referred to it as the "insincere and hollow sorry," because it always came off that way. That's kind of how I feel when a grocery store clerk is obviously smiling because it's their job, not because they actually feel happy. It's insincere and hollow looking. I smile when I actually feel happy, but some people smile when they are trying to affect my emotions, rather than because they actually feel it, and that annoys me. It's that whole empathy thing. They display an emotion on their face to try to emulate how they think I'm feeling or how they are trying to get me to feel.

well that is the thing isn't it. A bad-fake smile, with no emotion behind it is a no no. There has to be at least some real emotion behind it.

A while ago in a job interview I was given the “advice” to smile at people. I was very offended because I thought that this remark was far too personal and that I wasn't treated like a grown up but like a child. I don't really understand why you should have to smile at people without a reason. Why is a “neutral” face not sufficient to be considered as friendly and polite? I smile when I think something is funny but for me a job interview is a rather stressful situation and far from being funny. When I try to fake a smile it looks just unnatural and not very convincing.

I can do a version of smiling (smirking really), but it's always more on one side than the other and my teeth never show. In my case though I think it's more orthodontic than anything else.

I smile all the time - even when I don't feel like it. I read, years ago, that just the physical making of the smile releases endorphin's that help brighten a mood.

I hate being depressed and would rather do anything but that, so I squeeze up my cheeks and move along.

I find it easiest to smile when someone tells me not to.

The thing is I can't even fake a smile without looking weird. My mouth twitches uncontrollably and I look like an idiot.

I used to have a lot of problems with smiling, but I also didn't want to smile. I'm a lot more comfortable with smiling now, and I usually smile when I'm addressing someone, not because I feel I have to or like I'm being fake, but because I want to. If I'm just doing my work and going about my day though I'm not smiling, just straight faced (which probably looks more like a frown on me).

....You should at least smile about Iris being the new champion in pokemon black and white 2?

She's becoming one of my most favorite characters now...she OVERTHROW'S Drayden. She won't put up with his lectures anymore or even take his place as a gym leader now.

She's That Big Bad Boss Of All of UNOVA now.
:D

Soo, if your ever unhappy...think of how AWESOME Iris is now, okay?
:D

Even typing that out put a biiiig smile on my face....and lets just say today was not easy for me. But i'm glad I joined this place. :)

I hate smiling for photos! Whatever I try it just looks weird (Even if i'm listening to a professional photographer) so I usually just close my mouth which I thought was fine and all, until my step mom told me it looked like I was about to burp! ugh I don't know what to do for pictures anymore, I try to avoid them when possible,
