One piece of advice an online friend had for me a few years ago was to seek out other people who seemed lonely or on the fringe, because they would appreciate being noticed by someone for a change. He used to hang out in chat rooms where he would sometimes see people lurking instead of talking, and he'd message them to chat. Supposedly, he made some good friends that way.
What do you think of this? Have you ever tried it?
In real life: Some people just want to be alone and some people want friends. I love seeing new people transfer into the school (that's kind of how I make my friends!)
Online: It's been easier to make friends whether they are a loner or not (sometimes it's hard to tell)
