I'd be interested in attending a Birmingham meetup ...,
Any idea's when & where ?
On a side note, I'm also / was a member of Aspie Village, though I haven't logged in since Deano passed on the admin role, and although I'm still a member I cannot sign in now, 'cookies' issue apparantly. No big loss, as I find WP has more helpful topics/threads.
There's an AV meet in about a week's time, but I'm not going. I feel I have nothing in common with the regular posters on there. It's just boring small-talk. I don't think you're missing out.
I attended an AV group meet December 2012, , 6 out of an expected 9 members turned up.
I think one of the original thread starters lost interest in posting & didn't bother to show.
When I got there (the Pallasades) all the group including myself waited patiently for at least 25 minuits whilst one member decided to browse around a mobile phone shop to upgrade or otherwise purchase herself a new smartphone/Blackberry.
When she came out, we all moved on, New Street was chocabloc with xmas shoppers around the German market, so we stayed close together as a group.
Now at that meet, it seemed there's allowances for some to browse in shops at their leisure , but not for others, such as myself , as, a stall selling toy conundrum puzzles caught my attention, so I explained to the rest of group giving them the option to accompany me to have a quick look, they declined so I said I'd catch them up, but the town hall end of New Street was so crowded I couldn't find where they were at the proposed destination near Fletchers walk / Copthorne hotel, my phone had no signal to contact main AV member, so I gave up searching for them and so I went my own way for another half hour, then I went back home.
The next day, the write-up on forum of the meet-up, that member wrote something like; "
6 members turned up, although one member dropped out after a while"
Of course I replied to that post in such a way to save embarrassment or harsh feelings to anyone in particular, but certainly made my feelings known. The person who wrote the meet write-up apologized saying he'd "worded it the wrong way" ... yeah okay, still one rule for one but sod anyone who don't fit in to the 'aspie' group , (I thought) .
