Hi there

That might be nice. I am in Birmingham but my Asperger's is less severe and sometimes I feel like a bit of an imposter on here because I have managed to deal with it and give the impression of being an NT when I'm really not.

I'd be interested in attending a Birmingham meetup ...,
Any idea's when & where ?

On a side note, I'm also / was a member of Aspie Village, though I haven't logged in since Deano passed on the admin role, and although I'm still a member I cannot sign in now, 'cookies' issue apparantly. No big loss, as I find WP has more helpful topics/threads.

There are indeed a few good points about 'Birmingham' , it all depends what interests people.

For example, I live in north/central Birmingham not far from the well known 'Spaghetti Junction interchange' , beneath the forestation of concrete pillars that support this interchange is an interesting canal navigations interchange that lead in different directions, great for cycling :) one of the canal routes leading to an area of the West midlands thats known as the 'Black Country' (Walsall, Wednesbury, Wolverhampton, Dudley etc) , which was (and still does to some degree) a famous industrial heritage.
An attraction known as the 'Black Country Museum' is well worthy of a visit :)

If I knew any of you, maybe I would...

... but I kinda don't. I only poke my head in here like... once every few months at most.
Irrespective though, if you lot are familiar enough with each other on here, then I'd practically encourage it.

WP is far too large to really establish any kind of familiarity with anyone beyond determining some basic character traits.

Yeah... that is kinda unfortunate, and I had noticed.

But then there aren't really any small, closely knit communities left on the Internet... are there?

It used to be saturated with such things in the late 90s and early post-millennial. But then all the casuals started using the Internet... and most of the social stuff got eaten up by big sites like Facebook... and now pretty much everything is either so huge it becomes impersonal.... or just fails due to inactivity.

There's an AV meet in about a week's time, but I'm not going. I feel I have nothing in common with the regular posters on there. It's just boring small-talk. I don't think you're missing out.

I attended an AV group meet December 2012, , 6 out of an expected 9 members turned up.
I think one of the original thread starters lost interest in posting & didn't bother to show.
When I got there (the Pallasades) all the group including myself waited patiently for at least 25 minuits whilst one member decided to browse around a mobile phone shop to upgrade or otherwise purchase herself a new smartphone/Blackberry.
When she came out, we all moved on, New Street was chocabloc with xmas shoppers around the German market, so we stayed close together as a group.

Now at that meet, it seemed there's allowances for some to browse in shops at their leisure , but not for others, such as myself  , as, a stall selling toy conundrum puzzles caught my attention, so I explained to the rest of group giving them the option to accompany me to have a quick look, they declined so I said I'd catch them up, but the town hall end of New Street was so crowded I couldn't find where they were at the proposed destination near Fletchers walk / Copthorne hotel, my phone had no signal to contact main AV member, so I gave up searching for them and so I went my own way for another half hour, then I went back home.

The next day, the write-up on forum of the meet-up, that member wrote something like; "6 members turned up, although one member dropped out after a while" Of course I replied to that post in such a way to save embarrassment or harsh feelings to anyone in particular, but certainly made my feelings known. The person who wrote the meet write-up apologized saying he'd "worded it the wrong way" ... yeah okay, still one rule for one but sod anyone who don't fit in to the 'aspie' group , (I thought) .

Ah that would really annoy me MM :? May I ask what conundrum puzzles are?

If I pass anything large natural and vaguely wild looking detours may have to be taken. I may deliberately get lost if noone else feels the urge to commune with the wild. Im paleolithic at heart
