Even though I rarely see it happen, there are times when I will be in a check out lane and another costumer will tell me that the line is closed for the cashier shutting down the lane. Meanwhile the person in front of me seems to get served. So I manage to move and I happen to see the other person who reminded me seem to have this little attitude.

The look at me and will say "Sorry" with a little smirk or they seem to watch me get into a longer line with an attitude.
What is the reason behind seeming to rub it in?

I've had a couple times where I went and stood in a line and didn't realize that the cashier had just placed a small "line closed" sign there even though there were a few people standing there who must have already been in line. It's not a big deal, at some point someone will point it out to me and I'll just say "oh, I didn't see it" and move to another line.

I wasn't there when you had that interaction, but I do know that I have a tendency to assume people are acting antagonistic towards me even when they were just trying to be polite or even friendly, so you might want to consider that. :)

I know they are not doing this directly at me and I get that. I think what bothers me is that they seem to give you this attitude "Well I got here first and you did not so nya, nya, nya, nya, nya."

I can understand them telling me if the lane is closed and recommending. This need to put on an annoying little smile and with a smile and say "Sorry," with the cocky tone which is what touches my buttons.

I wish the cashier would tell me themselves and not leave it up to these annoying costumers.

I think this is a typical (but mild) case of certain people having a bit of a:

If the customer told you with a stony expression that could be taken as unfriendly. They are smiling to reassure you. They are not rubbing it in.

Me or the other costumers?
It does not happen all the time just once in a blue moon. When it does it annoys me. At the same time I grit my teeth.

The others.

I find it odd that it happens more than once in your case, I assume we are talking about adults (+21) here pulling those stunts on you?

Because it sounds like something that usually (or even only) would be done by 10 year olds.

"Oh s**t... I managed to make him/her move to that longer line!! *giggle*giggle*giggle*updatesfacebookstatus*"

Oh trust me it seems friendly but there is something about that friendliness that seems competitive to me. I only see this only so many years but it does bug me and I have to realize that.
