I don't like to lie about my beliefs, but I do hide certain beliefs or accentuate others. An example is talking to skeptics and atheists. I believe in ESP and don't have a particular attachment to God.

Since I've been attacked because of my belief in ESP before I'm careful about the way I talk about ESP with that group of people. I might talk about how I'm critical about religion. Or about that fake psychic on tv. Most of the time I just simply avoid that topic. Another strategy I have is talking about ESP in a very distant and abstract way. I do that on this forum because of certain members who like to try to disprove paranormal stuff any chance they get.

When I'm around conservative people I try to act friendly around them. I try to enjoy the moment with them, but I remember in the back of my mind they're conservative. That means I won't talk about queer politics with them.

I remember one time when a friendly and conservative woman was chatting with my mom. She was totally friendly looking. My mom later said my love to me. She says that to everyone. I also happened to be wearing a certain backpack. It had a bunch of designs including some rainbows. It wasn't a gay pride backpack. She gave my mom a dirty look at stopped talking to her.

That story proves that just because a conservative acts friendly and nice doesn't mean they can't turn nasty if you do something they disagree with.

On the other hand, I used to drive an older woman around in my car and took her to a fancy restaurant. Instead of showing gratitude, she mumbled and made rude comments about Conservatives. She knew full well my political beliefs.

That story proves that even when you do something friendly and nice for a liberal, they can sure turn nasty for no reason at all.

I'm fairly liberal in many respects. You could do something nice for me--I wouldn't grumble about Conservatives

Seriously....I think all this political crap has gotten out of hand.

I wouldn't hate someone just because of their political beliefs. I just dislike people who treat me differently just because they perceive me as gay. I also keep quiet about being queer or on disability because I know conservatives will hate me because of that.

There is no point talking about certain things with certain people and knowing your audience never hurts, sometimes it is better to blow smoke up someone's ass if you makes your life easier for you. Politics, with me and another person, is a pretty one-way conversation bordering on lecture as its a special interest of mine and I wouldn't expect most people to have much idea of what I am talking about or be able to keep up with it. I feel like I can find common ground with most people.

I don't even try to mask my beliefs and stuff, aside from resisting the urge to shout 'Hail Satan, my dark lord and master' in the middle of a church.

Sounds like a pretty normal way to be. Avoid discussing sensitive issues with those who may object. That's not chameleonic, that's just good sense.

However, beware of making your own generalizations that conservatives will hate you. I'm sure you've met plenty who don't hate you. They just don't fit your stereotypical image of what a conservative is, so you never noticed.

Think about it, won't you?

I highly doubt conservative people will still like me if they find out I'm queer. The reason they don't hate me is because I'm relatively closeted.

I believe in ESP. Thankfully I haven't caught much flak over it save for one ignoramus who never seemed to harbor very many right-winger ideas. To me ESP is primarily a matter of tacit experimentation that I have to squeeze into my daily life, no matter where I may be. I respect the intelligence of a fair number of conservatives, though rarely any who seek public office. IMO all the deleterious human habits that interfere with higher brain function (i.e. cheap beer & Faux News) are probably the only major stumbling blocks in the way of variably shared consciousness.

I'll just leave [this] here...

Edit: Ignorant liberals & conservatives alike can't stand me because I could annex all their hard drives at the drop of a hat, never mind the fact I don't do that... So I just keep quiet.

Never mind the congressional aisles - I'm a communist and I'm fully aware communists can turn nasty too. Turns out this is all matter of not being nasty.
