I made a post on a fighting game facebook page for my country. This is the post:
"I've just recieved ultimate marvel vs capcom 3, how should I get started? My experience is casual at smash bros"

Someone replied with a picture of a trash can, another person liked there picture. I took the post down to deny them the satisfaction and further trolling

why didn't it go so good?

That just sounds like typical social media nonsense. It's hard to avoid that sort of thing, no matter who you are. Are you concerned about it, or just annoyed? How can we help here on the forum?

People suck on social media sometimes. Maybe your next question will lead to a better discussion.

It didn't just because people can be as*holes. People are just mean and sometimes don't like you. In this case I wouldnt think you did anything wrong really.

I admin in a couple active facebook groups full of teens, and it's common teen slang nowadays for them to say someone is "trash" if they are heavily obsessed with a thing, in your case, the Smash Bros game you mentioned. They might have been accusing you of being fandom trash, based off your detailed and hardcore-fan-specific question.
Being called trash in this sense is not as offensive as the other meaning, as some hardcore fans of things may even self-identify as [something] trash, though such a term still isn't very polite, especially when it's someone who doesn't even know you.

You did nothing wrong btw. Their unhelpful silly reply was just their poor attempt at humor.

As everyone's said, you didn't do anything wrong. It was an innocent question.

Try Googling forums for the game you're playing, have a browse of the forum and see if there have been similar questions asked and how the forum members have responded. If it looks like a nice place with nice people, ask your question there. If they all seem a bit like the people who replied your Facebook message, go back and find another forum which might be a bit nicer.
